In the Philippines, early Filipinos or what we called “matatanda”, raised us with these

beliefs about BATHALA or “Maykapal sa lahat”, the parallel spirit world, and the spirit (anito)
everywhere. We were also influenced by our grandparents that the events in the human were
influenced by the actions and interventions of these spirits. These were the proofs that ever
since, our parents’ teachings was the first time we realized that there was higher being than
ourselves.
My personal experience to believe that there is a higher being happened back when I
was being blamed by my family about the accusations I’ve never done, My father almost
disowned me when he believed the words that came from the gossipers who want to defame
me. One night when I was crying I prayed that the truth be revealed and their lies be exposed. A
week later, one of my accuser accidentally left her cellphone to the place where my mother will
have a chance to read some conversations that will be the proof of my innocence. When I
remember these instances all I felt was gratitude to God.
We all know that Spirituality and Religiosity are the same but they differs if we
comprehend what they really meant. Spirituality is much deeper than the Religiosity, because
it’s all about inner self and our relationship with God but the other one was about external
matters. Religiosity is all about external matters like attending church and participating in
religious activities.
