Question: Theoretical Bases of Change in Education

There are numerous of theoretical bases for change in an organization, specifically in

education organizations. One of the approaches for change in education to be discussed is the

learning organization which was propounded by peter Senge.

Organizational learning is a theoretical bases for change in educational organizations. This

theoretical framework of change is based on four components, personal mastery, mental

models, shared vision, and team learning. These components are intertwined. Learning

organizations such as schools exist as a result of the aforementioned components. It becomes

easy for change in an organization when the organization encourages a learning and

appreciative environment. When members of an organization portray these behaviours

change in such organization will not be difficult. In learning organization members work as a

team and therefore can respond to change at any point in time.

Leaders within educational organizations support personal development of their

workers/staff. Personal mastery of the work one does within an organization will bring about

positive change since members will easily adopt to the everlasting changes in the educational

environment. Shaping individuals’ ideas and vision towards achieving an organizational goal

is likely to bring about positive change. The organizational learning theory holds the belief

that, the assumptions and perceptions of individuals about events or procedures of the

organization directly impact behaviour of workers.

In conclusion, learning organizations are the beliefs and assumptions that individuals hold

about concepts and events that impact behaviour. Educational organizations that have shared

vision is likely to bring about change. When members of the organization have the same

vision, the organization will be a positive change in the organization.
