According to RAHMAN (2020), education is considered an essential foundation for expanding areas
such as economic development and improving the human life of a country. In particular, higher
education plays a vital role in the economic and social growth of the country. According to Douglas
(2011), university students expect better service quality at university campuses. To ensure good
quality facilities, universities provide many services such as internet, sports, medical room, etc.
According to Kalam (2017), students are considered an essential factor in university campus activities.
A university's reputation depends heavily on the experience and satisfaction of students at that
university. This report is intended to provide suggestions for improving the student experience at the
University of Greenwich, Vietnam (Da Nang campus). The information will provide visibility,
stakeholder analysis and barriers to the proposed change. In addition, resources, opportunities,
leadership theories, and solutions to the student experience change project will also be specifically
addressed.
Based on the above evidence, it is a fact that university students are facing a high risk of food
insecurity, and students need an area and facilities to limit that situation. Because of this, more and
more universities are installing food pantries on campus to determine students' food insecurity
(Weaver, 2021). According to the study results from Lesson 2, college students who frequented the
pantry for food showed significant improvements in their health and depressive symptoms.
Moreover, when the students visited the pantry more, they reported getting more sleep. The figures
also demonstrate that regular pantry use improves students' mental health and well-being. The
pantry can be an essential part of helping students meet their basic requirements at university (Price,
2019).
Greenwich University in Da Nang currently has two campuses, An Don and Ngo Quyen. However, in
both establishments, there is no pantry, only the canteen (An Don) and the breakfast coffee area on
the 9th floor (Ngo Quyen). These areas all meet the eating needs of students but do not meet the
needs of students to preserve and prepare their food. Therefore, to improve the Greenwich
university student experience, the pantry is seen as an appropriate change in current conditions.
Based on the above analysis, the specific proposal for the project to improve the student experience
is to build a pantry space for students at the University of Greenwich. The pantry will include a
kitchen area with a microwave, refrigerator and other appliances so students can store and cook their
food. The project will consist of different phases with the participation of various parties.
2. Stakeholders
According to Seres et al. (2019), stakeholders are considered as individuals or groups of individuals
that influence the achievement of organizational goals. Universities that want to implement the
strategy need to identify and discuss with the stakeholders, categorize the parties and define their
requirements in the strategic intentions. The stakeholders of the universities are not too different,
namely the following parties: parents, school administrations, Board of Directors (BOD), Investors,
Lecturers, Finance Department, Office of student affairs and Students. There are two main vital
stakeholders, Students and School Administrations.
Students are considered key stakeholders because they are the primary audience for the pantry
building project. Students will be the pantry users, giving suggestions to improve the pantry project
and contributing to enhancing the pantry. Still, they do not have the same high power as the School
Administration and the BOD. If students are unsatisfied and don't use it, the project will fail and only
cost money to maintain. Besides, School administration is also considered a key stakeholder. They are
the ones who will do this project for the students. They take on the role of project management,
project implementation and successful project maintenance. Therefore, they have great interest in
the project, and they also have high power in this project. In addition, BOD is also considered a critical
stakeholder that needs to be added to this project. They are the decision-makers and advise on the
project. Some other stakeholders that need to be added are government, suppliers and employees.
Three leadership styles are used to convince critical stakeholders: ethical leadership, transactional
leadership and Negotiation and influence leadership.
Conflicts
The conflict between different parties will occur during project implementation, and disputes will
inevitably arise. In this case, two possible matches are between students and investors of the
University of Greenwich; The second is the conflict between the student's parents and the finance
department of the University of Greenwich. Although the implementation cost will not be a barrier in
this project, the investors of Greenwich University Vietnam will have to spend a good amount of
money to open a pantry for students. In contrast, the students do not have to spend money. Nothing
less and still get more services at the school. Although it is a long-term benefit, it will benefit both
parties. Still, for the first time after building and maintaining the pantry at the University of
Greenwich, the investor has not temporarily recovered the capital, so There may be conflicts
between students and investors. In addition, disputes between parents and the school's finance
department may also occur. It is highly likely that when the pantry is opened, the facilities are
increased, and the tuition fee will also increase according to that quality. This helps the finance
department to cover the costs of maintaining the pantry, but the increase in tuition fees will make it
difficult for parents because they are the ones paying the tuition for their children. Conflicts can
occur, but there is still a way to reduce and limit them. On the investment side, in the coming years,
FPT will invest heavily in education costs so that the burden will be somewhat reduced. As for the
parents, as long as their children clearly understand the need for a pantry and encourage the parents'
morale, the conflict will be somewhat reduced.
