BIG, BIGGER... METRO TO MEGA CITY

Metro/Megacities are generally characterised by extreme concentration of people,
values and infrastructure. Yet no two cities are similar. For example, the ten largest
cities in terms of economic strength are in the developed countries. However, if
population is taken as the yardstick, seven of the ten most populous cities are in
developing countries.
THE WIDENING GAP (WORRY)
Soon more people will be living in urban rather than in rural areas throughout the
world. It is estimated that in next 25 years more than 65% of the world population
will be living in urban areas.
• 82% population of developed world
• 60% population of less developed world
METRO & MEGACITIES VS. CLIMATE
• Metro and megacities have their own weather or, to be more precise, their own
individual city climate.
• On the one hand, they influence the weather and are therefore a causative factor.
On the other hand, the weather and climate in these cities have different effects to
those in rural areas.
