Furthermore, NORSOK standarcs are as far a8 possible intended to replace oil company specifications and serve as roferences in the authorities’ regulations. ‘The NORSOK standards are normally based on recognised international standards, adding the provisions ‘Seemed necessary to fil the broad needs of the Norwegian petroleum industry. Where relevant, NORSOK standerds will be used lo provide the Nowwagian industry input to the intemational standardisation process. Subject to development and publication of international standards, the relevant NORSOK standard willbe witharawn, ‘The NORSOK standards are developed according to the consensus principle generally applicable Standards work and according to established procedures defined in NORSOK A-001. The NORSOK standerds are prepared and published with support by the Norwegian Oll and Gas Association and the Federation of Norwagian Incustries,. NORSOK standards are administered and published by Standards Norway. Introduction This ecition 3 of NORSOK M-710 repleces ection 2 and is an update to include the following main ‘changes: ‘+ Asa result of tho joint industry effort to prepare ISO 23936-2 dealing with qualification of ‘elastomers, this NORSOK siandard refers fo the requirements in ISO 23936-2 for elastomers. ‘+ For thermoplastic materials, the qualification requirements are given direcily in this NORSOK standard end aligned with requirements and format in ISO 23936-2 + The ISO 29936-1: 2009 is considered as informative. ‘The intent of this NORSOK standard and the qualification process described herein isto ensure that the: 1. polymer material manufacturer and user have sufficient understanding and experience wth the applicable materials to be reassured that they wil give acceptable performance in the spectied ‘environment; 2. _manutacturer has sufficient insight and experince in the manufacture of such materials and that they are supplied of a sufficiently consistent quality to meet given specificatons. ‘The polymer materials covered by this NORSOK standard are olastomors and thermoplastios used for offshore cil and gas procuction, {tis intended that successful qualification of 2 manufacturer and a spaciic material be valid for other projects and different operators. The consideration of qualification is, however, at the discretion and ‘determination of the user, normally on the basis of documentation provided by the manufacturer as. required in this standard, ‘The user is responsible for ensuring, if necessary with external competence, that the manufacturer selacted is qualified. Materials previously approved to Ravision 2 of this NORSOK standard do not need to be re-qualified es long as the requirements in this document are adhered to ‘There does neither exist, nor are there current plans to introduce, a NTS/NORSOK qualification or ‘epprovel strategy or a public isting of quaified manufacturers in this regard. {In order for a material to be considered qualified in compliance with this standara, tne qualification test deta defined in this NORSOK standard shall be avaiable 1o the purchaser, user and asset operator. NORSOK ©2014 2 Provided by Standard Online AS for Rebecca+Loper+/+Hunting+Energy+Services 2014-10-17 NORSOK Standard M-710, Edition 3, September 2014 1 Scope This NORSOK standard describes a methacology for establishing long term chemical compatiilty for polymers based on an accelerated testing scheme for components watted by production and injection Aydrosarbon fuics. Further, for polymers (mainly elastomers) that can be exposed to sudden pressure drops in a gaseous environment, the standard describes 2 methodology for testing rapid gas decompression resistance. ‘The standard covers testing of material properties. Functional performance testing and low temperature properties are not covered by this standard. “The standard applies for downhole, subsea and workover systems. The standard elso applies to topside ‘valves up to and including choke valves in production systems and to high pressure gas injection. systems. “This standarc can be used for materials/components wetted by other ude. Examplos of such ‘components are olecineal isolation/sealing materials and sealing materials for hydraulic systems. In these ‘cases, fuids and test scope needs to be specified by Purchaser. “This NORSOK standard supplements, but does not replace, the material requirements given in the appropriate design codes, standards and regulations, “This NORSOk standard is based on ISO 29836 -2: 2014, Adsitional requiremonts and ciantcations tated in this document applies. ‘Annex A and B are normative 2. AASS Test pressure For chemical ageing, itis important to start each ageing period with the same quantity of the sour gas frixture preeent in the vessel, The length of each interval attest temperature wil vary but is ot likely to exceed 14 days. ‘Atypical procedure isto pressurise the test vessel to (60 + 5) bar at room temperature with the test gases andlthen heat to the required temperature, The changing pressure should be continuously recorded. An iterative method isto add a fixed amount ofthe test gas ata given low temperature before heating tho: Yosee! to the tox! level, Gall pressure, once temperatura stabilises, will hen vary with target temperatures put the starting quantity of reactive) H,S in the vesse! will always be the sare, Hence, the tast vessel should be heated to 50 °C and (60 £ §) bar of the test gas mixture admitted, before reising temperature to the required level. The pressure should be continuously recorded. ‘The pressure versus time detalls shall be fully described in the test report. 1.36 Exposure period ‘The time requited for relevant tensile properties of a thermoplastic o reach the pre-defined “failure limit ‘nil vary with temperature and material type. Some plastics (e.g. PTFE) will not exhibit any chemical ‘going charactoristics at all. Thermoplastics wil saturate relatively quickly at elevated temperatures (out more alowly than elastomers) but can take much longer to react chemicelly with HS to @ meaningful Batont itis recommended thet the highest temporature exposure test siarted fist in order to gauge the Gatent of material chemical change with time. Several weeks may be required to determine material ‘behaviour trends, see ISO 23636-2 Annex E AAA Ageing test specimens ‘Any tensile test pioce dotined in an international standard will be acceptable. The test piece shoulé have rrominal thickness of 4mm, unless otherwise determined based on an evaluation according to A.1.3.3 ‘Tho same geometry shall be used throughout the test programme. All property measurements shal be made at room temperature. The measurements in A.2 ‘hall be made before and after immersion testing. Al measurements shall be recorded and reportad in tho tost report. The level of tensile test piece replication per fuid exposure condition (ime/temperature) shall be five. ‘A minimum of three elevated temperature fuid exposure tests shall be run, with an initial test plus @ minimum of four lime periods per temperature, mine the chemical ageing ‘A3.8 Material property measurements ‘The tensiee propery levels (e.g. tensile modulus, tensile strength, elongation at break) of as-received ‘material shall be measured at room temperature according to the referenced procedures. Individual and ‘mean values shall be reported. ‘The tensile propery levels of liquid saturated material (.. not chemically aged, no HS) for reference Purposes can be determined in one of wo ways. Fist an exra set of replicate specimens can be included inthe exposure test vessel and the cell is hated to tet tomporature and vapour pressure for 48. The procedure used shall be documented inthe test report 41, Add test liquid(s) 10 vessel 2. Insiall test specimens in the liquid phase of the tos liquid; close vessel 3, Purge vessel with nitrogen gas (< § x 10-6 02); bubbling the ritrogen through the liquid phese with a flow rate of 100 milimin for at least 15 min is preferred to remove most of the oxygen. 4. Pressurize the vessel with at least 40 bar nitrogen and perform leak check, 5, Rolease the ntrogen at 1 bar/min, heat the closed vessel to fest temperature and hold for a period of 48 h minimum; thie eneures that the thermoplastic test piaces wil be saturated. 6. Coal to room temperature, open the vesse! and remove the five reference test pieces, close vessel, repurge with nitogon and leak chack vessel 7. Add test gas at room temperature to a pressure of 60 bar + § ber. 8, Raise temperature to test level 8. Record the changing test pressure and maintain and record temperature forthe specified period. When 2 vessel is cooled for sample removal and at the end of the exposure period, the following procedure is recommended to reduce the risk of decompression damage: 41. Cool the vessel naturally to ambient temperature; overnight is usually sufficient. 2. Reduce remaining precure safely at a maximum rate of 1 bar per min, neutralising the sour gas with a scrubber 2. Flush vessel with nitrogen to remove remaining HS, if used. 4. Open vessel and retrieve test specimens. These should be kept wet by following the procedure in subdiause A3.5. 6. Camy out post-test procedures of inspection (see subclause A.3.4) and measurement {see subclause A.3.2) A310. Visual inspection ‘Tne test specimens shall be visually inspected for damage direct after removal from the vessels. The nature of any damage (e.g. embritlement, swelling, bistering) shall be recorded. A photographic recorc dfrepresentative damage features shall be included inthe test report 3.11 Sample handling and storage procedures “Test specimens retrieved from aging fluid shall be stored in fresh hydrocarbon oll (of the same composition used in the immersion test) until required for measurement. Wnen weighing, remove sample from the liquid, dab dry ans weigh in air and water within 3 min to minimise evaporative losses. Rotur to liquid immediately until put back into the test vessel. When removing samples for tensie testing, remove ‘each sample individually from the storage liquid, moacuro neck dimensions and tensile test, all within 10 min, Tensile tesied material shall be stored in re-soalable polyethylene bags, appropriately labelled A.A Test report (ageing) A412 Test specimen details “The manufacturer, material grade, manufacturing method and batchylot number shall be reported, NORSOK © 2014 18 Provided by Standard Online AS for Rebecca+Loper+/+Hunting+Energy+Services 2014-10-17 NORSOK Standard M-710, Edition 3, September 2014 ‘AAA3_ Exposure tost conditions The folowing apply 49), test medium identfication with classification, sub-classificalion where appropriate, and detailed ‘composition: 'b)_ test temperature (°C) and temperature history ©) test pressure (bar) and pressure history 4d). test duration (hours) 1), date and time for start and end of test ‘The ageing time is the time that the matoril was cubjected fo test pressure and test temperature.
