The grant that will be reviewed is the Pediatric Mental Health Care Access (PMHCA)
Program. According to Grants, the Pediatric Mental Health Care Access (PMHCA)
Program is to promote behavioral health integration into pediatric primary care by
supporting pediatric mental health care telehealth access programs. Telehealth is being
able to connect with your medical provider through electronic information and
telecommunication technologies. The impact of this program is to show an increased
access to pediatric mental health care by utilizing any telehealth option available.
According to Health Resources & Services Administration, the number of primary care
providers enrolled, number of primary care providers who will get a teleconsultation,
number of children and adolescents seen by primary care providers, and percentage of
children and adolescents who screen positive for behavioral health condition and
treatment received are efforts to achieve the measures. Like all programs they follow
priorities they want to follow to achieve their goals. The priorities are to increase
availability and accessibility of statewide or regional networks, conduct training, provide
technical assistance, provide information to pediatric providers, and to improve access to
treatment and referral services for children and adolescents. Eligible applicants are state
governments, special district governments, county governments, city or township
governments, Native American tribal governments, and Native American tribal
organizations. The opportunity category is Discretionary. According to the Health
Resources & Services Administration, successful recipients will focus on achieving health
equity related to racial, ethnic, and geographic disparities in access to care, in rural and
other underserved areas. It is expected to get 21 awards. With an estimated total program
funding of $9,345,000. The forecast date is May 16, 2022 and last updated May 25, 2022
with fiscal year 2023. The estimated project date is july 1, 2023. This will be helpful for
those who do not have transportation and are able to get a televisit consultation.
Telehealth can bring so many great things now and in the future. As it gets to be used
improvements will start to show. It will take time for patients to get used to it since they
are used to in person consultation.
