Case #5: Department in Conflict

1. Problem: Damon’s and Ahmed’s continuous conflict has gotten out of hand and made the

team feel everyone is on their own; Lance expectations or them being civil is different

than actually working together.

2. Key points:

Leadership: Lance has allowed the conflict between Damon and Ahmed get out of hand,

to the point it has made them lose companies; he did not put a stop since the beginning

and has only expected to resolve its self or for them to work together and be civil.

Emotional Intelligence: Damon and Lance are allowing their personal emotions to get

on the way of being professionals and working together to get an end result. They are

both being stubborn and allowing their personal emotions know to the rest of the team.

Communication: The sales team does not have communication; the rest of team trusts

Lance but not each other. They feel like there’s no teamwork.

3. Solution: Lance needs to resolve the conflict between his employees by sitting down with

both them and make them clear they need to resolve the issue or at least not let it affect

and hold off work. If they continue, then he should fire them. Also, he needs to bring the

moral back and should follow up with what his dad always wanted to do, team work

retreats.
