HISTORICAL RELATIONSHIP OF Fever convulsions and epileptic events in


children ≤ 5 years old in Dr. H. ABDUL MOELOEK LAMPUNG PROVINCE,
2018-2019

ABSTRACT

Background :Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that is often found in the world and
has the highest incidence in childhood. The most common risk factor for epilepsy is
febrile seizures.Febrile seizures refer to seizures associated with high fever (> 38 ° C)
which often occur at 6 months - 5 years of age.

Research purposes :This researchaims to determine the relationship between a history


of febrile seizures and the incidence of epilepsy in children ≤ 5 years old at Dr. H.
Abdul Moeloek, Lampung Province 2018-2019.

Research methods :This study used an analytical research design with a cross sectional
approach.The population used was all pediatric patients aged ≤ 5 years who were
diagnosed with epilepsy at RSUD Dr. H. Abdul Moeloek, Lampung Province. The
sample in this study amounted to 42 people who were taken by total sampling
technique.The statistical test used is test Chi Square.

Research result : The results of this study showed that 31 children (73.8%) had a
history of febrile seizures, and 11 children (26.2%) had no history of febrile seizures.
And it was found that 8 children (19.0%) had partial seizure epilepsy, and 34 children
(81.0%) had generalized epilepsy. Test resultsChi Squarethat is (p value 0.032) there is
a relationship between a history of febrile seizures and the incidence of epilepsy in
children ≤ 5 years old in Dr. H. Abdul Moeloek, Lampung Province, 2018-2019.

Conclusion:There is a relationship between a history of febrile seizures with the


incidence of epilepsy in children.
