To search for earth faults on the loops, it is best to use the following method: ◾ Earthfault Troubleshooting If now the loop with the earth fault has been detected: ◾ Pull off loop terminal 2 so that the loop runs as a long stub line. ◾ Disconnect only the screen wire to determine if the ground fault is caused by only a contact of the cable shield (bypass wire) with the + or - wire. If the earth fault voltage drops back to "normal", there is a contact with the shield/screen wire. Otherwise, the loop will make contact with grounded building parts (sheet metal ceiling etc.). ◾ Disconnect the loop (now as a stub) approximately in the middle, e.g. at a manual call point (+, - and shielding wire) and check the earth fault voltage again. If the values are normal again: Fault location is behind the disconnection point. If the values are unchanged: Fault location is in front of the disconnection point. Disconnect again in the middle, and so on, until the exact fault location is located.
