ENGLISH SPEAKING TEST FOR GRADE 9


THE SECOND SEMESTER

* General Notes:
A. Total score: 10 points for 3 parts
B. Criteria for evaluating students’ speaking skill
1. Fluency, Quick and Natural Response to every question (20%)
2. Being Informative, Coherence & Cohesion (60%)
- Good & Relevant speaking content
- Use of appropriate language (connectors, structures & vocabulary, tenses,…)
3. Pronunciation (20%)
Correct pronunciation, right intonation and stress, proper punctuation,...

* General Instructions
A. Organization
+ Part 1 & Part 2: Examiner(s) ask(s) students to work in pairs taking turn to ask and
answer with the given sets of speaking questions under examiners' observation. Each
student has to choose at least 5 questions in part 1; and only one question in part 2 to
ask his/her partner.
+ In part 3: Examiner(s) give(s) comments and some more questions for each student.
B. Examiner's speaking
“Hello, this is the final English speaking test for you in the second semester. The
speaking test consists of three parts.
The first part is Social interaction. In this part, you will take turn to ask your friend 5
questions about him/her and everyday situations such as study, hobbies, family, etc.
You can choose 5 questions out of the given list.
The second part is Topic development. In this part, you will ask your friend to give a
small talk on one topic that you choose from the provided list.
The third part is Follow-up questions. In this part, I will ask each of you some follow-
up questions related to your talk in the second part before giving you marks and
feedback.
Now, the test begins”.

(Examiners deliver 2 sets of speaking handouts to each pair of students and


conduct them to take part in the speaking test)

Choosing your future job and reasons for the choice
Suggested questions:
What job would you like to do in the future? Why?
Why do you think the job is suitable to you?
What are the most important qualities you need to have in order to do the job well?
What will you need to do to prepare yourself for the job?

Tourism: Can you talk about some negative effects of tourism
on a region or country?
Suggestion: make sure you use the right connectors; the following ideas may be
helpful to you.
- Natural environment is damaged
- Natural beauty is spoiled
- Traditional ways of life are affected
- Social problems may arise

What is the place you like travelling to the most?
What do you usually do there?
Do you like travelling to other countries? Why/Why not?
