Class Notice No. : 15/2015

Subject : New revision of URZ, URS and UI (2015)

Date: June 11th 2015

References: Requirements concerning SURVEY & CERTIFICATION (URZ) , Requirements concerning STRENGTH OF
SHIPS (URS) and Interpretations of the SOLAS Convention (UI).

1. Introduction

o ICS Class adopts since July 20, 2011 the use of IACS Unified Requirements URZ ´Requirements concerning Survey &
Certification´, URS ´Requirements concerning Strength of Ships´ and Unified Interpretations (UI) of the SOLAS (SC),
MARPOL (MPC) and Load Lines (LL) as an external support documents and as a reference information during the process
of revision and actualization of ICS Class Rules and Regulations as well as other class and statutory documents used by ICS
Class surveyors during the process of inspection, classification and certification of vessels under ICS Class supervision.

o Refer to the Annex 1, Annex 2 and Annex 3 for the last revision of IACS Unified Requirements (URZ & URS) and IACS
Unified Interpretations (UI).

o IACS Unified Requirements Z1, Z7, Z7.1, Z7.2, Z10.1, Z10.2, Z10.3, Z10.4, Z10.5, Z18 and Z21 are strong recommended
as the best guidelines for the annual and intermediate classification survey, hull classification survey, hull surveys for general
dry cargo ships, hull surveys for LPG tankers, for the enhanced program of inspections (ESP) during surveys of bulk carriers
& oil tankers including special, annual and intermediate hull surveys and for the periodical survey of machinery and propeller
shafts and tube shafts surveys. In addition you can find important information in relation with the preparation for survey,
documentation on board, procedure for thickness measurements, reporting and evaluation of survey and other information
(tables & annexes) very useful during the hull surveys of bulk carriers and oil tankers.
o Hull Classification Surveys are well explained on Z7 (Rev.22 Feb 2015) including the preparation for survey and the
minimum requirements for:
 Thickness Measurements at Special Surveys
 Guidance for additional thickness measurements in way of substantial corrosion
 Internal examination at Hull Special Surveys of fuel oil, lube oil and freshwater tanks
 Survey Requirements for automatic pipe heads at Special Surveys

o Hull Surveys for General Dry Cargo Ships and Hull Surveys for Liquefied Gas Carriers are available on Z7.1 (Rev.11 Feb
2015) & Z7.2 (Rev.6 Feb 2015) respectively.

o As a reminder refer to Annex 4 regarding the Rules and Standard Set (RSS Feeds).

o We strong recommend the installation of RSS Feeds from IACS website in all computers used by ICS Class surveyors. Keep
up to date with IACS URs and other IACS publications via RSS feeds. We also recommend the use of Outlook as the best
option for the emails management and also to kept-up-to-date with IACS publications which are constantly under revision.
