ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS AND CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Selected among the top 20 students in India for the University Grants Commission (UGC) Summer Internship 2010 at the Electrical Engineering Department, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. Currently ranked 91st in India on Project Euler, a popular website which has problems aimed at inspiring the user to extract maximum use of computational methods to solve mathematical problems. Was among the National Top 1% in the Indian National Physics Olympiad (INPhO) held in 2007. Ranked 14th in Goa state and placed among the top 3% of more than 700,000 students in the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) 2007. PROJECT WORK/ TRAINING Robust Segmentation and Text Extraction from Natural Scene Images UGC Summer Intern under Prof A.G. Ramakrishnan, IISc Bangalore (May July 2010) Developed a robust color connected component based segmentation algorithm for automatic text detection and extraction from natural scene images. The method was tested on images from the ICDAR 2003 Robust Reading Competition data set and was found to enhance the text recognition accuracy significantly. Interactive Curve and Surface Design for Computer Graphics Under Prof. S.N. Biswas, Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Kolkata (May July 2009) Developed an interactive design of surface patches and used it for the three - dimensional surface modelling of a car in MATLAB. This method ensures that different surface patches of a complex model can be defined using a small set of parameters and interactively modified and joined to manipulate the surface shape of the object. Segmentation of Text and Images in document images Under the Spider Team, NIT Trichy (Mar - Apr 2009) Implemented a MATLAB prototype of Automatic Document Analysis for segmentation of text and images in digitized documents based on the Gray-level Histogram Fourier transform of the image. Ranked 1st at the Puzzle Champ event in Nittfest 10, the cultural festival of NIT - Trichy. Participated in an Inter-Departmental play in Nittfest 09. Won prizes representing School in several elocution competitions.
