Many individuals are divided on their opinions about euthanasia in light of the recent South African

High Court ruling to permit it. Although euthanasia, often known as mercy killing, has always been

prohibited, the Gauteng North High Court has declared it to be legal (April 2015). The case relates to

Stransham-plea Ford's for medical assistance in ending his life before the Gauteng North High Court

on April 29, 2015. Euthanasia is not presently lawful in South Africa as a result of the court's ruling.

Instead, it implies that each case must be viewed in light of its surrounding circumstances and

evaluated on its own merits. This was not a parliamentary decision; it was a provincial one. The

significance of this specific ruling is that it establishes a standard for instances that may be like it in

the future. Judge Fabricius' ruling was influenced by a variety of significant legal and ethical

considerations, but for the sake of this essay, his comment about euthanasia is of special

significance.
