1) ABSTRACT

Fibers can be of two types, filament fibers and staple fibers. Filament fibers are fibers
of indefinite length. Filament fibers are usually sleek and smooth. Staple fibers are
fibers of relatively short length. Staple fibers are usually natural fibers. Here we’re
going to perform test on fibers and compare their properties and conclude which
performs better in certain conditions.
Testing can be defined as the process of determining the properties of different kinds of
substances. Before putting something into widespread use, production or practice, the
quality, performance, reliability etc. are checked. It finds out how well something
works.

We do Fiber Testing to control the different processes and to select them for production
of different kind of materials. Such as Spinning, Weaving, Dyeing, Finishing etc. End
breakage is controlled by controlling weight per lap length, sliver length and roving
length. Weaving process is controlled by controlling the excessive breakage of warp
and weft yarn.

Here, in this report we elaborated the experimental testing where we took different
types of textile material which are fibres. Two properties/parameters are tested with the
help of different textile testing machines and performed in the lab. Therefore the further
extensive briefing can be seen the report.

2) IDENTIFICATION OF WORK
Fibre Testing is performed using two different fibres for the comparison of their properties
which are as follows;

1) Cotton Fibre:
It is pure natural cellulosic fibre which is grown in a protective case around
cotton seed and forms a ball type structure containing fluffy staple fibre. It is vastly used
because of its ease in blending with other fibres and having premium standard qualities which
are required for smooth weaving and knitting.

Sample:

2) Tencel Fibre:
It is a Natural cellulose fibre like the type of rayon, viscose and modal. They
are made from wood pulp by using special drying process called spinning. Many renowned
brands are trying to make a full use of it as it is of sustainable use and enhance the aesthetics.

Sample:

Fineness of these fibres are tested upon Micronaire fineness tester machine and other
parameters like weight, strength and elongation is determined with the help of Stelometer.
The whole procedure and experiment is further discussed including the comparison of
properties in the report for the clear idea of these properties and their importance in Textile
Industry.
