Persuasion is important, and well worth learning, for every


human being and not just marketers or sales reps. It is a
part of our daily lives. Persuading our families to go out to
eat and vacation, scrolling your facebook account watching
and reading news what is real and new on the social
media, it is pervaded in our lives.

Persuasion can be defined as...

“a symbolic process in which communicators try to


convince other people to change their attitudes or
behaviors regarding an issue/idea through the
transmission of a message in an atmosphere of free
choice”

2. People are not coerced; they are instead free to choose
through self-persuasion

face communication
4. Persuasion is symbolic, utilizing words, images, sounds, etc

return favors. They like to treat others as they’ve been treated.

Example: giving freebie’s during opening of account.

Commitment and Consistency


According to the Consistency and Commitment principle, people
are more likely to do something after they have agreed to it
verbally or in writing. People strive for consistency in their
commitments because they associate the commitment with their
self-image.

Ex. walk the talk. Brand promise.

Social proof as a guide for the decisions and actions in situations


where people are unsure of the correct way to behave. In short,
people will do things that they see other people are doing.

acts.

It basically says the less there is of something, the more valuable it is.
The more rare and uncommon a thing, the more people want it.
