Socrates,( bornc. 470 BCE, Athens( Greece) — failed 399 BCE, Athens), ancient Greek champion whose way of life, character, and
allowed wielded a profound influence on Western gospel.
Socrates was a extensively honored and controversial figure in his native Athens, so much so that he was constantly mocked in the
plays of ridiculous dramatists.( The shadows of Aristophanes, produced in 423, is the best- known illustration.) Although Socrates
himself wrote nothing, he's depicted in discussion in compositions by a small circle of his sweeties Plato and Xenophon first among
them. He's portrayed in these workshop as a man of great sapience, integrity, tone- mastery, and argumentative skill. The impact of
his life was all the lesser because of the way in which it ended at age 70, he was brought to trial on a charge of blasphemy and
doomed to death by poisoning( the bane presumably being hemlock) by a jury of his fellow citizens.
