Wind Energy System Project

Question 1: The house will be located where you were born. Find the latitude and longitude of that
location. Find wind resources at the location of the house.

Question 2: Specify the size of the house. The wind turbine will be located on the roof, or in your
backyard. Batteries will be located in the basement or ground level.

Question 3: Specify the electrical loads in the house. Find the energy in kWh for 1 year.

Question 4: Assume that there are at least 3 “no-wind” days at your place. During these days the
batteries should be designed to supply all the loads in the house. Size and specify the battery.

Question 5: Design a wind turbine system to provide power to all loads in the house during the
month of minimum average wind speed. Specify the type, size and dimensions of the wind turbine.
Based on your house location, specify the height required for the wind turbine installation.

Question 6: Specify the commercial wind turbine.

Make realistic assumptions of battery efficiencies, etc.
