Dear Recreational Therapy:

I am a first-generation student from Guatemala, a recipient of the Sterling Scholar Award

for family and consumer science and the Alumni Founders Day scholarship. I am completing my
undergrad in Recreational Therapy (RT) program at the University of Utah and aim to soon
become a licensed Recreational Therapist. I want to work in this profession because I love
helping people see the ability in their disability by working with them to live a more holistic life.

Over the past, I volunteered at a hospice care center and PATHS. I aided four elderly
women by creating activities to do with them. Furthermore, I volunteered with PATHS,
a program through the University of Utah to mentor low-income first-generation students. I
mentored 6 students through weekly check ins with them, planned and facilitated activities with
up to 20 youth, and chaperoned them on community field trips.

I have already completed all the RT following courses: Foundation in Recreational

Therapy, Assessment, Documentation, & Evaluation in RT, Intellectual Disabilities, Older
Adults, Physical Medicine, Mental Health, Management in RT, Clinical& Professional Analysis,
Facilitation& Technique, and Internship in Recreational Therapy. I interned at Crescent Senior
Living this Summer of 2022. I currently need to pass the exam and be officially certified, I plan
to one day work in a hospital setting to work with different populations.

Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Brenda Ramirez
