EVALUATION OF THE WASTE MANAGEMENT MODEL IN TALANG JAWA VILLAGE,

MERBAU DISTRICT, MATARAM, SOUTH LAMPUNG REGENCY

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT
The waste management model in Indonesia is not optimal yet. Heaps of waste in
average is 67.8 million tons in a year in Indonesia (Ministry of Environment, 2020).
Waste management that fulfill the requirements in Lampung is about 18%, the third
rank from the last of waste management in Indonesia (Health Research and
Development Agency, 2018). Based on data from the South Lampung Health Office in
2020, the waste management that fulfill the requirements for Merbau Mataram District is
only 29% and the communal waste management of Talang Jawa Village is only 20.7%,
there is not different from other villages that the waste is not managed communally. The
purpose of this study is; to evaluate the model of waste management in Talang Jawa
Village.
Descriptive qualitative is used in methodology research by detailed interviewing to
eight informants and non-participatory observations that relates to operational aspects.
This research had been doing from January to July 2021 in Talang Jawa Village, Merbau
Mataram District, South Lampung Regency.
The result of research states that the waste management model in Talang Jawa
Village is still bad enough. This is caused of the waste management operationals are not
fulfill the requirements, facilities and infrastructures are not well, the applying of
regulations have not been maximized, Waste Banks have not been operating,
cooperation among institutions is not optimal, limited costs, the involvement of people
there in waste management with 3R is not maximal and the handling plastic trash by
burning way in the laystall. some suggestions in this research are make improvements of
facilities and infrastructures, activating waste banks, make increasing of participation of
people based 3R from beginning to end, do not burning waste in laystall, make
socializing regarded waste with the Regulations of Talang Jawa Village, do reinforcement
of coordination among institutions and make increasing of waste management services.
