Netflix prices are decreasing in India and increasing in the USA. Why?

Netflix has slashed the price of its basic plan in India by 60%, from 499 rupees ($6.60) to 199 rupees
per month, while simultaneously slashing the price of its higher-quality plans by the same amount.

The most noteworthy pricing adjustment is in Netflix India's lowest tier, the mobile plan, which is now
priced at 149 rupees, down from 199 rupees, and is aimed at people using mobile phones and tablets.

Indian customers spend approximately five hours per day on their Android mobile devices and
downloaded 4.8 billion games in the first half of 2021, outnumbering all Android mobile gamers
globally, thanks to Netflix's concentration on Indian mobile users.

When compared to its critical outside competitors, Netflix outperforms its local competition. Disney+
Hotstar, a joint venture between Disney and its Star India subsidiary, would have 46 million subscribers
by the end of the year, according to a study from Media Partners Asia. Amazon Prime Video, on the
other hand, which had 18 million members this summer, may reach almost 22 million by the end of
the year.

However, if Netflix is unable to generate revenues and maintain user growth in the United States, it
will be forced to raise prices. As competition has grown, the price rise was "just part of their need to
continue to raise revenues, to be able to compete successfully, to be able to develop attractive stuff,
and then to advertise effectively."
