Film Review: Little Buddha

There is a western feature film with a buddhist theme; it is called ‘Little Buddha’. It tells
the story of the reincarnation of an enlightened being in Paro monastery in Bhutan.
The Venerable Larbu narrates a short story ‘Many years ago, in one place they had a little
goat. The goat was a reincarnation, and goat explain about it before life’. The Venerable Lama
Norbu had to find to Lama Dorje. One day, he received a letter calling him to meet the reincarna-
tion of Lama Dorje even though he was old. When he went to find the Lama Dorje, he met an old
man and he gave a bowl to the one who had to use it Lama Dorje. This process was supposed to
be easy.
And he travelled to the America and met a monk. The monk had a dream of Lama Dorje.
Why these monk are finding in American, because the Lama Dorje was dead in this world. Even-
tually, they met a family with a son. The monk, who lived in America, guessed that this son was
the reincarnation of the Lama Dorje. When they met at his home, Norbu gave a book telling the
story of prince Siddhartha. The son is called ‘Jessie’. Later, Lama Norbu took Jessie to Bhutan.
They go to Bhutan to find another reincarnated being in Bhutan. His name was Raju, an-
other little boy who the monk sensed was a reincarnated lama. While there, they found the last
reincarnate being, a girl called Gita. They met all the reincarnates. They were trying to guess the
identity of the enlightened ones and they asked Nat (Dava). Later, they decided these three guys
are the reincarnations of Larma Dorje.
At the end of the film the Larma Norbu died and he will be reborn. They believed this
would happen. They realized about teaching of the Buddha, including reincarnation.
