gence of color TV. Where Crown and Weston in-
troduced their first Video Cassette Recorders, as
leading dealer. Modern Electronics got the op-
portunity of marketing their first Video Cassette
Recorders. During this period, they started a Vid-
eo Cassette Library. Dissatisfied with only selling
of electronics goods, they joined hands with M/S.

or O Televisions and Video
Cassette Recorders in S.K.D. condition and as-
sembled selling them under the brand CONTACT.
0 The following year 1983, M/S. Video Master,
a partnership firm was established. Video Master
acquired franchise from M/S. Esquire Electron-
ics. It was under manufacturing and marketing
films on Video Cassettes with the brand ‘ES-
QUIRE’. Slowly, acquiring copyrights of new films

advantages of technology, they were reluctant
to part with their Video Copyrights of films for
Home Market. TIME then offered irresistible
packages to individual Producers and com-
pelled them to part with their Video Copyrights
against thepolicies of their Associations. Open-

Producers. It was because of TIME that HOME
VIDEO became a major territory and huge
amounts were given to the Producers by Video
Companies for film shootings.
0 Further acquiring other types of rights that
included Commercial Video Rights and Cable
TV Rights. These created other avenues years
later. These Video Copyrights at those times
were of no value because of no much exploita-
tion. Much later that in the year 1990 the
first opportunity to exploit the Cable TV Rights
came.
Video Master already established ‘TIME’ with a
huge library of legal films on video. These
were commendable contribution in the field of
mani” Award — ‘86 by the late President of In-
dia, Gyani Zail Singh.
0 To a stronger base and better distribution
network they tied up with their Video Distrib-
utors from the North and East of India. Form-
ing new companies by the names of AAR DEE
FILMS, VAT COMBINE and TIME FILMS. Also,
introducing a new brand GOLD under which
Video Copyrights of old classics and new films
were released. It included the entire lot of R. K.
Films, Mehboob
Productions, A.V.M., Manmohan Desai (M.K.D.
Films), Gulshan Rai, Pramod Chakravorty,
Saawan Kumar, Ramesh Behl, Mohan Kumar,
Pehlaj Nihalani, A. Poornachandra Rao, Pranlal
Mehta, Jeetendra etc.
0 All the major Video Companies like TIME,
GOLD, BOMBINO, INDUS, VP, and PRISM united
together, forming CABLE MASTER. Cable Mas-
ter issued licenses to the Cable TV Operators
against payment of royalty. This period, all Ca-
ble TV Networks were legalized. Soon cable TV
networks were spread over the country.
0 The Film Producers got more out of their films
by selling Cable TV Rights separately. TIME got
the benefits of screening trailers and songs of
their films, getting more mileage through this
network. The table was now set for the inva-
sion of Satellite Channels, without which ZEE
TV, STAR TV, SONY TV etc. had no base. For
these efforts the names of his brother,
Dhirajlal N. Shah featured in the LIMCA BOOK
(Commercial & Non Commercial), Cable TV
Rights and Theatrical Distribution Rights, which
was very advantageous to them and producers.
With the expansion business of Cable TV licens-
ing, Cable Master was converted to Cable Video
(India) Pvt. Ltd.
0 Their first film produced was VIJAYPATH in the
year of 1991 starring Ajay Devgan, Tabu,
Gulshan Grover, Danny.
0 TIME AUDIO, established in 1992, wherein Au-
dio Rights were acquired. TIME AUDIO was also
launched. TIME were with advantage of promot-
ing their music and films on Video and Cable TV
Networks. This made it very beneficial for Film
Producers to market all types of rights under a
single roof. It attracted the Producers of RAN-
GEELA, KARAN ARJUN, RAJA BABU, IMTIHAN,
GOPI KISHEN, KOYLA etc.
0 As Audio business expanded they found it nec-
essary to set up their own mastering and
processing unit. So, they established a full-
fledged Audio Duplicating Plant with a daily
production capacity of 45,000 recorded cas-
settes at Andheri, Mumbai.
