Evaluation of Control Function Efforts

Goal # 1 and 2

 How did you track and measure your performance while working toward it throughout the

semester? I used a scale to track my weight throughout the semester. I did not weigh myself

every day, but I did it on a monthly basis. To track my GPA, I used my current grades in all

my classes to calculate my GPA.

3

 From whom did you collect performance data (e.g., feedback)? How did this inform your

behaviors? My friends told me that I look the same in terms of how much I weigh and well

the GPA calculated.

 What obstacles did you encounter while working toward this goal?

I encountered many obstacles throughout the semester. I was especially overwhelmed by the

graduate applications that were due on December 1st for the Music Performance programs

nationwide. I had to catch up on a lot of practicing and could not find the time to focus on my

academics as much as I should have. My grades suffered from the lack of studying and

missing assignments which brought down my grade in most of my classes and that negatively

impacted my GPA. For the weight loss goal, I was doing okay until I got overwhelmed mid-

October. I found myself eating more often and more unhealthy foods to cope with the stress.

That tied to not going to the gym as often and doing no form of exercise for most days of the

week because I had no time, made me stay at the same weight that I started with.

 When evaluating performance against a standard, there are three possibilities: (1) make no

changes; (2) recognize and reinforce positive performance, or (3) take action to correct

negative performance. Discuss these in the context of your performance while working

toward this goal. For instance, if applicable, describe how you took corrective action based

on your performance measures and any performance data you received. I would say I

possibility number 1 would apply the most in my situation because my weight stayed the

same and my GPA did not get better. For scenario number two, I had some positive results

when I consistently practiced violin for my music classes, and I tried to reinforce that

behavior so that I would practice more often in a consistent manner. For scenario 3, I rarely

took action to correct any negative performance. Most of the time, I just let it happen and
4

accepted failure. There were so many moments where I just gave up and I seriously regret

doing so. There were a couple of occasions during the semester when I really took care of

having a healthy diet. That was when I was ill with the flu, with an 103 fever. I was eating as

best as I could to help reinforce my immune system.

 Overall, how do you evaluate your performance on this goal? Explain. Overall, my

performance on working towards my goals this semester was lackluster and poor. The reason

being that I did not have the discipline to keep track of the food I was eating nor the amount

of food that I was eating which is why I did not lose 20 pounds this semester. Also, my GPA

did not go up to a 3.5 this semester because I let myself get overwhelmed by many things

like managing a club, having to do grad school applications, procrastination.

 What did you learn while working toward this goal that you can apply to your future

endeavors? I learned what not to do this semester. I learned that I need to manage my time

with some type of tool such as a daily to do list. Also, I need to make it a habit to reflect on

how my day went every day. Giving myself time to reflect will help me realize the mistakes

that I made and the good things that happened during the day. This semester I learned that I

am addicted to YouTube and Netflix. To combat my addiction, I found an app called

Rescuetime that tracks and limits your time on websites like YouTube or Netflix.

Personality Results Analyzer / Visionary

You are drawn to others who share your interest and curiosity in the world. A natural
leader and full of ambition, you're often the one presenting the paper others have come to hear.
Others look up to you and follow your lead. You are a deep thinker, and you enjoy learning new
things. You also always have a suggestion for something new that you want to check out or learn
about, and your friends appreciate getting new ideas from you. You are happiest when
surrounded by other people, and you thrive out in the world. However, you also enjoy a quiet
evening at home with several close friends full of invigorating discussion and deep thinking.
COMPLEMENTS You like to work with other Analyzers who share your intellectual
interests. You also appreciate working with your Planners because as the person who brings the
'big ideas,' you rely on your Planner colleagues to take care of and remember the details. You
and your Planner coworkers make the perfect team, working in tandem to cover all aspects of a
project.
CONFLICTS As a natural leader and a rational person, you are fortunate in that you work
well with all types of colleagues. However, you may find that if there are too many other
Visionaries on your team, you get the feeling that there are 'too many cooks in the kitchen.' This
can be frustrating for you and those on your team as they may be confused about whom to
follow. You may also find that you have to adjust your leadership style for your Action-Taker
colleagues. You tend to think before you act, and your Action-Taker colleagues are just the
opposite, sometimes making their work style difficult for you to understand. Alessandro
