FINAL YEAR PROJECT PROGRESS REPORT

From: Luhoni Jonathan and Atwine Phillip

To: Dr. Ing. Abubaker Matovu Waswa (MAIN SUPERVISOR) and Dr. Roseline
Akol (Co SUPERVISOR)

A summary of activities carried out on our final year project;

 Installation of the Java Development Kit (jdk), Opportunistic Network
Environment (ONE) simulator and Eclipse IDE.
Integrated the ONE simulator in the eclipse IDE, Set java path in our system
variables in our computer properties and included external Archives to Java
Build Path in the IDE.
 Simulated the default epidemic routing protocol.

Epidemic default scenario.

 Introduced energy module into our eclipse workspace. The energy

module increases the energy efficiency of epidemic protocol when
simulated.
The energy module is implemented in the ONE simulator to analyze the impact of
energy consumption on the DTN routing protocols. This energy module is added
within the routing module in the ONE simulator. This work extends the open-
source ONE simulator by allowing existing DTN protocols to make
forwarding decisions based on the available energy resources. The message
statistics (time in seconds) are shown in the picture below.

The average latency is 22s which is less than 25S in project objectives. The
delivery ratio of 80% was not obtained. Power utilization from batteries is yet to
be evaluated.

Conclusion.
Power utilization analysis is yet to be carried out to understand the energy
efficiency of the energy efficient epidemic protocol.
Comments will be helpful for project progress.
