ENGLISH PRESS RELEASE: HON.

MAKAMBA AND CEOrt TO DISCUSS PRIVATE

SECTOR PARTICIPATION WITHIN THE ENERGY SECTOR

Dar es Salaam 18th August 2022: Given the increasing focus on developments in the energy
sector in Tanzania, this evening the CEO Roundtable of Tanzania (CEOrt) is bringing together
business leaders for discussions on “Driving Private Sector Participation within the Energy
Sector”.

Recent updates in the country’s energy sector include plans around the EACOP pipeline,
upstream offshore gas developments, LNG project negotiations and a number of renewable
energy project proposals. In a time when a global energy transition is in progress, stakeholders
are taking into consideration its impact on emerging opportunities on the continent as well as
investment decisions to be made. The next phase in Tanzania’s energy sector is expected to
focus on promoting investment and growth, therefore making private sector leaders a crucial
element by relying on their strategic input and participation in unlocking the country’s budding
potential.

The CEOrt is honoured to welcome Hon. January Makamba, Tanzania’s Minister of Energy, as
the Keynote Guest Speaker during this event. Hon. Makamba has reiterated the Government’s
goal of balancing rural and urban development where energy is concerned, and mentioned
priorities that include enhancing energy efficiency while improving the sector’s reliability, and
encouraging local private sector participation in the diverse energy value chain. Another vital
objective of the sector is to reduce deforestation, a goal that the CEOrt is intent on helping to
achieve as it is in line with the forum’s bold stance for climate action.

Committed to enhanced collaboration with Government, the CEOrt looks forward to facilitating
this engagement between the Minister of Energy and private sector leaders to further explore
the role of Energy in driving a sustainable and prosperous energy future.
