Overview

Classic CR Readers
The Classic CR is a reader that accepts a single storage phosphor
cassette inserted manually, scans the phosphor screen, and
produces an image. Once the image is scanned and stored on the
reader, the cassette is erased and can be removed. The Console can
be kept nearby or in another location, depending on the optimum
workflow.
The Classic CR Reader includes:
• Cassette Feed Slot
• Local User Interface or Easy View display and Remote User
Interface
Selectable Scan Modes:
– Standard Mode (High Resolution Scanning)
– Reduced Border
– High Speed Mode (Normal Scanning)

Electrical Power Requirements

Classic/Elite CR Systems are intended to be installed by trained,
authorized installation or service personnel. The installer can
adjust internal settings to accommodate any of the Mains voltages
shown below.
IMPORTANT: All electrical services, including earth ground, must
comply with local and national electrical codes.
Classic/Elite CR Systems Electrical Power Requirements
Nominal Mains Voltage Voltage Range (Volts ac) Current Frequency
(Volts ac) Lower Value Upper Value (Amperes) (Hz)
100 90 110 10 50 or 60

CAUTION:
Failure to comply with these requirements could void the
customer’s warranty.

• Never use extension cords.

• Never cut or remove the Ground Prong from the Power Cord.

The Classic/Elite CR Systems have an IEC 320 Power Connector
and accept Mains Cords with a matching IEC 320 Connector.

Power Failures
There are various types of power disruptions that can affect a CR
System. Voltage sags, voltage surges, brownouts, line noise, high
voltage spikes, frequency variations, switching transients, and
harmonic distortions. These disruptions can be corrected by a
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).
A UPS provides back-up power in the event of a power failure.
However, the Classic/Elite CR Systems do not come with a UPS.
Back-up power will last for a specific length of time, depending on
the UPS energy storage capacity and the power requirements of
the equipment. A UPS also conditions the power provided to the
CR System. If you choose to provide a UPS system for your
Classic/Elite CR System, follow the manufacturer’s
recommendation for use and battery replacement.
UPS Specification #1: 1500 VA UPS Whole System or Reader
only usage.
UPS Specification #2: 700 VA UPS for Console/Monitor only
usage.

Scan Modes Scan Modes refer to the speed and resolution you can set on a
Classic/Elite CR to scan a cassette. Scan Modes affect large
cassettes, such as 35 x 35 cm and 35 x 43 cm.
You can set three Scan Modes from the Local User Interface
• Standard Speed Mode—Standard Resolution, High
Resolution, Enhanced High Resolution Scanning
NOTE: In Standard Speed Mode, 35 x 35 cm and 35 x 43 cm
cassette sizes are scanned at High Resolution.
• High Speed Mode—Standard Resolution, High Resolution,
Enhanced High Resolution Scanning
NOTE: Long-length and dental cassettes are scanned at the same
rate in either mode.
• Reduced Border—You can select the Reduced Borders option
on the Local User Interface of the Classic/Elite CR Reader, to
scan images from 35 mm cassettes and print them on the
DRYVIEW 8900 Laser Imager. These images have smaller
borders than those generated by other systems. Images on 35 x
35 and 35 x 43 cm cassettes are captured with pixel sizes of
171 microns rather than 168 microns. The scanned image area
increases slightly, producing reduced borders.
