Credits: 4
This course covers the structure and function of the human body. Included is an orientation of the human body, basic principles of
chemistry, a study of cells and tissue metabolism, joints, the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems, and the senses.
Dissection, histological studies, physiological studies, and physiology are featured in the laboratory experience.

Course Objectives
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to
Describe the physiology of cells and cell membranes, including membrane transport processes.
Explain the structure and function of skin, epithelial membranes, and connective tissue membranes.
Describe the process of bone formation, growth and function. Identify bones and joints of the human skeleton.
Explain how muscles contract.
Describe mechanisms of signal transduction by the nervous system, including action potentials and synaptic transmission.
Describe the anatomy and physiology of the central and peripheral nervous system.
Explain how the special senses operate.

DISCIPLINE: FACULTY MEMBERS MAY RESPOND TO CASES OF PLAGIARISM IN ANY OF THE FOLLOWING WAYS:
1. Return the paper or other item for rewriting; the grade may be lowered.
2. Give a failing grade on the paper or other item - “F” if a letter grade is used or zero if a numerical grade is used.
3. Give the student who plagiarized a failing grade in the course.
4. Recommend sanctions, including disciplinary expulsion from the College.

Grade reports can be obtained online immediately following the end of each semester. Any grade appeal must be initiated by the
mid-term of the semester following the assignment of the grade in question.
