ASSIGNMENT 3.

The case:
Kiranjit Ahluwalia was arrested for the murder of her husband after she doused his feet in
petrol and lit him on fire. She argued that her husband used to abuse her constantly and when
he burnt her face with a hot iron it was her last straw. To take revenge and make him feel
how she felt she lit his feet on fire but didn’t expect him to die and that wasn’t her intention.
She was given life in jail sentencing but was released upon appeal.
Suspect: Deepak Ahluwalia
Crime: Domestic abuse towards wife.

Forensic interview 1:
Objectives- To establish rapport, trust and avoid contamination of memory.
Questions-
1. Hi, how are you feeling?
2. Are you comfortable? Do you need water or anything else?
3. It’s a long drive how was the drive here today? The weather?
4. Is this your first time in a facility like this?
5. (follow up) This is your first time in a facility like this how are you feeling?
6. What’s the first thing I need to know about you? Your hobbies, interests, what do you
like to do?
7. (Based on the answer) What kind of …. do you engage in?
8. How would people significant in your life describe you?
9. How has life been in the UK?
10. (Based on the answer) would you say you feel more comfortable here in the UK or in
India?
11. How has work been? Is it a good job, mediocre job… or how do you like it?
12. (Follow up question based on the answer) do you enjoy your work? What you do
seems interesting can you explain a little more about it?
13. Why do you think you are here today?
Let’s take a break you can go out and get some refreshments or use the washroom.

Forensic Interview 2:
Objectives: more in-depth interview centered towards the incidence.
Questions-
1. How do you know the accuser/victim?
2. (Follow up) How long have you guys been married? When did you get married?
3. (Follow up) How did you two meet?
4. Are you and your wife on good terms?
5. (Follow up) How often would you say you fight?
6. (Follow up) What would you say is a habit of hers that you do not appreciate?
7. What happened today?
8. According to you what went down today?
9. (Follow up) How are you dealing with it? How are you feeling about it?
10. Do you have any concerns you’d like to put forward?
11. Any thoughts you’d like to convey or anything you’d like to bring to our notice?
