Prossedure
1. Greeting.
- Good evening, dear pupils, teachers and parents! Welcome to our Halloween party.
I am glad to see you all. Halloween is a great holiday in Britain and in The United
states of America. Especially for children. Do you like this holiday?
(Pupils answer)
2. The main facts about Halloween.
It is a festival that takes place on October 31st. It is the end of autumn and the
start of winter . The main attribute of Halloween is Jack-O`Lantern .This holiday
started in Ireland. Halloween was originally a festival of the dead.
Halloween means All Hallows Eve. You know, the 1st of November is All Hallows
Day . Many people in the USA and the UK celebrate this holiday with great pleasure,
but, unfortunately, in our country this holiday is not well known. On this day children
wear costumes of ghosts and witches. They go for a walk late at night, knock at doors
of their neighbors, and shout: "Trick or treat?'' The neighbors give sweets or money.
The main symbol of Halloween is a pumpkin or Jack-O`Lantern . Children cut holes
in pumpkins and place candles into them. At night pumpkins look like heads with
15
burning eyes, and it is horrible and frightening. On this holiday people decorate their
houses with pumpkins. Children bring pumpkins to school too.
Besides, children like to tell each other scary stories about ghosts, witches, and
skeletons.
3. Work with flashcards.
-Let’s name these symbols of Halloween. [Appendixes S, T]
(a black cat, a witch, a ghost, a skeleton, a pumpkin, “Trick or treat”, a vampire, a
monster, a web, a spider, a bat).
4. Pupils tell the rhymes
P 1: The sky is blue, the sky is green.
Have you got a penny for Halloween?
Trick or treat, trick or treat
Give us something good to eat.
P 2:Tonight is the night.
When dead leaves fly
Like witches on switches
Across the sky,
When elf and sprite
Flit through the night
On a moony sheen.
P 3: Tonight is the night
When pumpkins stare
Through sheaves and leaves
Everywhere,
When ghouls and ghost
And goblin host
Dance round their queen.
It's Halloween.
P 4: Halloween, Halloween, magic night.
We are glad and very bright.
