Form a group of your choice that will compose 3 members each, at least. Work only within your group to
solve the following problems. The deadline of submission is until tomorrow 6pm. I will be calling the
group randomly to present their solutions. Goodluck!
Problems:
1. A 100mm thick plain concrete slab is carried by concrete girders AB, BD, CD, and AC. Determine
the dead and live load acting on girder AB or CD. (Use 23.6 kN/m3 as unit weight of concrete)
(20 pts)
2. Assuming girder BD is simply supported, compute for the reaction at both ends considering the
total dead and live load, U=1.2DL + 1.6LL. (10pts)
3. Assuming girder CD is simply supported, compute for the reaction at both ends considering the
total dead and live load, U=1.2DL + 1.6LL. (10pts)
4. The barrier as shown is commonly used during highway construction. Determine its weight per
meter of length if it is made from plain stone concrete. Use 23.6 kN/m3 as unit weight of plain
concrete. (10 pts)
5. Classify each of the structure as statically determinate, statically indeterminate, or unstable. If
indeterminate, calculate for the degree of indeterminacy. (10pts each)
