Vista Alarm has a modular, hierarchical and scalable system architecture with different redundant levels of control and operator units to guarantee failsafe operation as well as effective installation. All components are developed for harsh environments, thus ensuring a reli- able operation onboard, The highest level in the Vista Alarm hierarchy consists of the process con- trol stations, based on one or several single working places with a high-qual- ity PC, keyboard, trackball, high resolution colour monitor and an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) The communication between the process control stations to the next level in the Vista Alarm hierarchy uses the high performance Process Control System Bus. The process control stations are connected to independent process stations. The process stations are designed as - Alarm and Monitoring Stations and Control and Monitoring Stations, Both types consist of a high-quality embedded computer system with fail- safe parameter storage Their own optional user interface (Data Acquisition Display DAD for alarm and monitoring, Remote Control Panel RCP as control backup level) allows the usage of the process stations fully independent of the process control stations. The working places are equipped with a high-quality PC with keyboard and trackball as equivalent input units as well as a high-resolution colour moni- tor (min. 1024x768 Pixel). The different working places are redundant and monitor each other. Thanks to the permanent data compensation and the automatic error detection it is not necessary for a user to manually switch to the redundant station in case of an error. Components, the continuous operation of which must be guaranteed, are UPS backed by an UPS (uninterruptible power supply) for the time interval stipu- lated by the classification authorities. Process control The implemented communication network (ETHERNET) with an optimized ‘system bus protocol (refer to section 2.3.4.3) is capable of distributing both, a part mimic diagram invoked by the user and all alarms within 2 sec. or even fast- ef to up to 8 working places. The open system architecture allows to process a distributed Client/Server- application via the network. Standard links are available. The modern operating system Windows NT forms the basis for the process control software. It encompasses the possibility of implementing several lan- guage modules, which will also be considered in the ONLINE help. 1D: BA_ANL.en.fm Pages 1-7 Rev.; B of 01.08.01 STEIN SOHN Vista Alarm Automation System User’s Manual Chapter 1: Automation System Part 1: Structure and Operation Clockmaster Free arrange- ment of measur- ing points Alarm display Trend Control permission ‘A Substation Management Unit (SMU) can be configured as the clockmas- ter. The process diagrams are hierarchically sorted and contain free process im- ages, bar graph diagrams and status displays for the different operational aggregates. On two additional standard diagram pages measuring points can be arranged user defined in arbitrary order during normal system operation, An alarm is displayed as common alarm field, as a line indicating the last alarm, in the detailed view and in the chronologically sorted alarm list. Asscalable ONLINE trend serves for analyzing analog measured values. The time intervall for recording values can be individually set during project en- gineering. The measured values can be arranged according to your require- ments. Part of the various fields of application are the parameter changes, alarm ac- knowledgement and remote control of aggregates. For each domain stan- dardized input masks are defined like e.g. the parameter window or the operating window for standby pumps, compressors or valves. Intelligent blocking mechanisms control the access rights of the individual working places and users. The access level is displayed. Besides the trend an alarm and event history for discrete status information does exist. ‘The communication to the Vista Alarm Process stations and to the third- party systems as well as the communication between the graphic worksta- tions are realized via the process control system bus (refer to section 2.3.4.3), All further details concerning the process control system are described in chapter 2. For a detailed description of the process control software please refer to the “User's Manual for the Vista Alarm Visualization”. Page: 18 ID: BA_ANL_en.fm Rev.:B of 01.08.01 Vista Alarm Automation System User's Manual STEIN SOHN 4 Part 1: Structure and Operation Chapter 1: Automation System 2.3.2 Process Stations Depending on the system architecture process stations can be arrranged in a centralized or decentralized order. The process stations are responsible for either alarm handling and monitor- ing or for controlling aggregates like pumps, compressors and valves. In the case of alarm handling and monitoring the values measured by the process VO nodes are transmitted to the SMU and processed in the Fast Data Engine. If any limiting value is exceeding, an alarm is issued. Analog mean-value deviation systems as well as tank level gauging with vol- ume calculation via tank tables can also be implemented. If aggregates are to be controlled user inputs at the RCP or at the process control system workstations as well as the aggregate feedback signals cap- tured by the process VO nodes are transmitted to the SMU, where they are processed in the Fast Data Engine. 2.3.21 SMU The Vista Alarm SMU is responsible for the process management and the control of the process /O nodes connected to a maximum of 4 independent. fieldbus segments via the Fieldbus Converter VBI-5. The SMU operates as the busmaster with self-diagnostics including /O. nodes. Third-party systems can be easily connected upon demand using the exist- ing standard process VO fieldbus (refer 10 section 2.3.4.1). One additional line of the SMU / VBI-S is implemented for the data transfer to the Extension Alarm System All alarm information with necessary time stamps is transmitted to the XAS Panels and to the alarm printer. In the case of a Journal printout the SMU. sends all journal information to the journal printer. The communication to the Vista Alarm Process Control Workstations can be realised in redundant version if desired. The SMU controls the function of the DAD (low level man-machine inter- face) and the RCP ( backup level for process control). The DAD is connected via a serial communication, the RCP is a member on one line of the process VO fieldbus. This ap- plication fulfils all functional requirements to the Vista Alarm process sta- tion. A failsafe parameter storage with EEPROM technology is implemented | In the case of systems with a redundant standby SMU an automatical pa- rameter exchange between both SMUs via process control system bus is in- cluded, The exact structure of a SMU is described in chapter 3. 2.3.2.2 DAD The DAD Data Acquisition Display is used as a local display and operating unit inside the Vista Alarm process stations for alarm and monitoring func- tions. Each alarm is displayed with a LED, thus enabling a quick overview in case of critical operating states. Via the menu-assisted LC-Display the user has the possibility of choosing be- tween the list display for alarms, non-acknowledged alarms, suppressed and blocked alarms as well as a complete measuring point list. The 5 function keys allow the user to switch between the various display modes like e.g. the change of measuring point parameters, the suppression channel and the manual alarm suppression The basic module of the Data Acquisition Display-DAD consists of 64 LEDs and the LC-Display. It can be extended by up to three additional modules with further 128 LEDs on each panel for the direct alarm display. Therefore up to 448 alarm and status information can be shown on the LED modules. ‘The Data Acquisition Display-DAD js connected to the SMU via current loop serial line with an optimized transparent protocol. The exact structure of a DAD is described in chapter 4. One select pushbutton for each standby pump pair , single pump, compres- | Select pushbutton sor and valve is available ‘The 5-function-keys in combination with feedback signals on the LC-Display allow the user to control the selected aggregate or to switch between the various display modes like e.g. the change of measuring point parameters. Via the menu-assisted LC-Display the user also has the possibility of choos- ing between the list display of all alarms, non-acknowledged alarms as well as all aggregates. ‘The basic module of the Remote Contro/ Panel is the RCP and consists of 3x5 areas each for one controllable aggregate and the LC-Display. It can be expanded by up to two additional modules RCPX with further 6x5 | areas in the same manner. Therefore up to 75 aggregates can be controlled and status information can be shown in the highest degree of expansion. ‘The RCP is connected to the SMU via RS485 fieldbus with optimized MOD- BUS-binary protocol (refer to section 2.3.4.1). The exact structure of a RCP is described in chapter 5. 2.3.2.4 Process-l/O Nodes The process /O nodes serve for the acquisition of contacts and thermocou- ple elements and transmit the received signals to the SMU. Each node mon- itors and controls its input information independently from the other nodes. ‘One LED per input channel signals the status of the respective channel The nodes can be arranged in a centralized or decentralized order. For de- outstations: BA_ANL_en.fm B of 01.08.01 wt STEIN SOHN Vw Vista Alarm Automation System User's Manual Chapter 1: Automation System Part 1: Structure and Operation centralized system architectures they can on demand be integrated into so- called outstations, in order to operate at the nearest possible distance to the process. The exact structure of the different nodes is described in the chapters 6 - 13. 23.3 XAS Extension Alarm System The Extension Alarm System is an independent alarm system, which is equipped with panels for the bridge, the engine control room, the mess rooms and the accommodation. in addition, alarm- and journal printers can be connected. 2.3.3.1 XAS Panels Aarms are displayed as common alarms on all panels and as single alarms in a list on the LC-Display. Furthermore the XAS -panel with “on duty" operation gives an acoustic warning. At this XAS -panel and at the ECR-panel the alarms must be acknowledged, causing the ECR-panel to automatically switch in “on duty* mode. All other panels have a repeater function. The Extension Alarm System encompasses an engineer call system. It is pos- sible to send a selective cail from the ECR and the bridge panel The called panel responds both, optically and acoustically, the other panels only optically, The ECR panel can also send a common call to all other units. In addition, fire alarm and XAS failure are alerted. All XAS panels are interconnected via a separate data bus (please refer to “Extension alarm system bus” on page 14). Itis also possible to connect an alarm printer and journal printers to this bus system. Further details concerning the XAS are part of chapter 14 and 15. 1D: BA_ANL_en.fm Rev.:8 of 01.08.01 Vista Alarm Automation System User's Manual nor Part 1: Structure and Operation Chapter 1: Automation System 2.3.3.2 Printers and PPI Parallel Printer Interface The design of the Vista Alarm integrated automation system includes alarm and journal printers In standard applications the alarm printout and the journal printout can be realized via either one printer or two printers, i.e. one for each function For non-standard applications more than two printers are available on de- mand. The alarm and journal printers are equipped with the well proven printing machine DR215N (DR235N) and the Parallel Printer Interface PPI. The PPI is a member on the Extension Alarm System Bus and has to be lo- cated near the printing machine (~2m) but in any distance from the other members on the XAS-bus. The connection to the printer is a standard par- allel printer interface. Pushbuttons can be connected to the PPI for an easy manual printout of the alarm list and up to 4 journal lists For more details please refer to chapter 16. 23.4 Bus systems The following three bus systems are to be distinguished * Process I/O Fieldbus ( refer to section 2.3.4.1) * Extension alarm system bus ( refer to section 2.3.4.2) * Process control system bus ( refer to section 2.3.4.3) 2.3.4.1 Process I/O Fieldbus The communication to the Vista Alarm distributed Process VO nodes and to the third-party systems as well as the communication between the SMU and the RCP are realized via the Process V/O fieldbus based on RS485_ with twisted pair cable, Each SMU can drive up to 4 fieldbus segments. Standard ship cables like FMGCG 2x2x0.75 can be used. For the communication an optimized MODBUS-binary protocol is imple- mented. Standard ship cables like FMGCG 2x2x0.75 can be used. For the communication an optimized MODBUS-binary protocol is imple- mented. Additionally to this communication the Fire and XAS fail information is con- nected to the XAS panels. For these signals an additional twisted pair cable is needed. Both cables can be included in one common multicore cable e.g. FMGCG 4120.75, 2.3.4.3 Process control system bus ‘The communication to the Vista Alarm Process stations and to the third- party systems as well as the communication between the graphic worksta- tions are realized via a high performance ETHERNET bus based on Thin Ethernet with RJ45 connectors and 10baseT twisted pair cable. Standard ship cables like FMGCG 2x2x0.75 can be used. In the case of more than 2 members on process control system bus an ad- ditional ETHERNET HUB is included in Vista Alarm. The Process Control Bus can be performed redundantly. Several communication protocols can be used simultaneously on the pro- cess control system bus. For the inter-workstation communication the stan- dard mechanism of Windows NT is used. An optimized MODBUS-binary protocol inside the process stations provides for the communication between the graphic workstations and the substa- tion management units SMU.
