MAED 202 Education Testing and Management

JONA MAY T. GASTA, MAED-EM2

TASK 1: REFLECTION
1. Recall personal experiences about assessment. What were some of the factors that turned
you off about tests? Were these results of the test themselves, or were they the result of how
tests are used?
 The teacher was angry to the class thus she conducted an exam. The purpose of the
exam was not appropriate since the primary goal of an assessment is to determine the
level of knowledge and ability learned by the student. This exam is conducted just to
scare the learners, the real objective of an assessment is not served.

2. What do you say of surprise exams?

 Surprise exams are informal formative assessment. The benefit of this assessment is
that they give you and students a quick glimpse for making immediate decisions. They
don't take much prep, planning, or classroom time. These methods may be helpful to
identify students with a stock knowledge of the lesson. But for worst case scenarios, it
makes learners to panic, lack of focus, and cramming.

3. As a teacher, give the prime reason for giving tests.

 Primary reasons to give assessment to learners is to measure the quality of the
academic performance. It is used to measure student’s knowledge and ability to do a
required learning outcome and to determine the degree to which goals are attained. The
result of the assessment is used to make instructional decisions to which students
needs remedial activity or should proceed to higher competency.
