CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

Family is the basic unit in society, it is a social group that is made up of parents and

children that shared common interest, beliefs and values. According of (Sumile, 2020) it is a

group of persons usually living together and composed of the head and other persons related to

the head by blood, marriage or adoption. A social unit interacting with the larger society

(Johnsons, 2000) The family meets individual needs through provision of basic needs; food,

shelter, clothing, affection and education. (Sumile, 2020). It is considered fundamental of

humanity, currently undergoing a process of profound change in health care system of nursing.

Which the action of any member may set of a whole series of reaction within a group, and entity

whose inner strength may be its greatest single supportive factor when one of its members is

stricken with illness. A nurse has a role and responsibility to serve an individual, group family

and community. The importance of the family in providing care to its members has already been

established. The family can improve member’s health through health promotion and wellness

activities (Sumile (2020). Family nursing is the practice of nursing directed towards maximizing

the health and well- being of tall individuals within a family system (Maurer and smith, 2009).

The focused on the individual family member, within the context of the family, or the family unit

that establishes a relationship with each family member within the unit and understands the

influence of the unit on the individual and society. The nursing assessment and intervention must

not stop with the immediate social context of the family, but it must also consider the broader

social context of the community and society (Friedman et al (2003).

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

General Objectives

 At the end, family builds unity despite of cultural differences- they will able to improve their
lifestyle and, maintaining good relationship. 

Specific Objectives:

During the period of the case study, the student nurses will be able to:

1. Building rapport and trust to the family.

2. Determine the family history of Mr. Angelito Narbay.

3. Illustrate the family genogram.

4. Knowing the lifestyle and habit of the family.

5. Provide information that may increase their knowledge about maintaining their health.

6. Determine the risk factors and effects of unhealthy lifestyle of Mr. Angelito Narbay.

7. Create nursing plan for Mr. Angelito health concerns and problems.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

The following terms were defined as:


Habal-habal - is an improvised two wheels single ridden beyond
passenger capacity.
HINAWASA -is a waterworks sewerage system
Manug luy-a - an alternative tradition healer who treats the illness
Suba- it is the body of water that flows downhill from the force of
gravity. A river can be wide and deep, or shallow enough for a person to
wade across
Otan -plants that are consumed by humans or other animals as food.
Gabusog -an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience, associated
with or expressed in terms of actual or potential tissue damage
Sinugba -cooked by exposure to direct, intense radiant heat; broiled.
cooked on a grill;
Chichirya - are snacks that are munched or grazed on. A junk food
(snacks) such as chips, candy, some fast foods.
Alangaang - a temporary rise in body temperature. It's one part of an
overall response from the body's immune system.
Kasapatan - any of a kingdom (Animalia) of living things that feeds on
organic matter.
