Checklist: Compressions-Only CPR Technique for Adults

BASIC PROTOCOL
The student:
1. Calls for help
2. Positions himself at the side of the subject
3. Makes sure the subject is lying face up on a firm flat surface
4. Puts the heal of one hand on the center of the subject’s chest on the lower half of the
sternum
5. Puts the heal of the other hand over the first hand
6. Straightens his elbow and positions his shoulders directly over his hands

7. Pushes the subjects chest down at a rate of 100 (≤120)/min (30 chest compressions in
18 seconds or less)
8. Pushes the subjects chest at least 5 cm (2 inches) but not greater than 6 cm (2.4
inches) with each compression
9. Minimizes interruptions
10. Continues until help arises.
