MẠO TỪ XÁC ĐỊNH VÀ MẠO TỪ KHÔNG XÁC ĐỊNH
Mạo từ (article) là từ đứng trước danh từ và nhìn vào mạo từ ta có thể biết được danh từ đứng
sau đó là một đối tượng xác định hay không xác định.
I. Indefinite article (Mạo từ không xác định): a/an
a/an: MỘT - dùng trước một danh từ số ít đếm được.
Khi đề cập đến một đối tượng chung hoặc chưa xác định người ta thường dùng a, an.
eg: A ball is round. (nghĩa chung, khái quát, chỉ tất cả các quả bóng)
I saw a boy in the street. (chúng ta không biết cậu bé nào, chưa được đề cập trước đó)
an + từ bắt đầu bằng nguyên âm (e, o, a, i, u) a + từ bắt đầu bằng phụ âm
an apple an hour a lamp a flower
an orange an ice-cream a door a chair

II. Definite article (Mạo từ xác định): the

- Được dùng trước các danh từ đã xác định, tức là khi mà danh từ đó được nhắc đến, thì cả người
nói và người nghe đều hiểu đó là ai/cái gì.
eg: I see a dog. The dog is chasing a mouse.
- Được dùng trước những danh từ, vật thể duy nhất.
eg: the sun, the moon, the earth,…
- Được dùng trước tính từ để chỉ một nhóm người
eg: the old, the young, the rich,….
- Được dùng trong so sánh nhất
eg: the best car, the most beautiful girl,…
