SOPS (Scania Onboard Product Specification)

SOPS (Scania Onboard Product Specifica-

tion)
The conditions for many of the vehicle’s functions and physical construction are pro-
grammed in a data file called SOPS. The SOPS file communicates with the vehicle’s
control system and a default version of the file is saved in a database at the factory.
The SOPS file is unique to each vehicle which means that certain modifications and
conversions require the settings in the SOPS file to be changed. Some of the settings
are called local parameters, which can be changed with SDP3 (Scania Diagnos &
Programmer 3). The parameter changes are made to adapt the vehicle’s functions to
its bodywork and for the vehicle to retain its function, performance and diagnostics
function after a modification. SO
A reprogramming of the SOPS file might be necessary despite the fact that modifi- PS
cations to the vehicle do not have any physical connection to the electrical system.

Modification of vehicle

Modification of vehicle
IMPORTANT!

Always contact a Scania dealer before modifying the vehicle to check the following:
• If the modification is permitted
• If a reprogramming of the SOPS file or parameter change with SDP3 is required

If a reprogramming of the vehicle’s SOPS file is required, the following must be

done:
• A Scania dealer must copy the vehicle’s SOPS file with its current parameter val-
ues and send it to the factory for reprogramming.
• If the modification is approved, the factory will send a reprogrammed SOPS file
to the Scania dealer who will load the file to the vehicle once the modification is
completed.

Do not make any local parameter changes for the vehicle while the SOPS file is away
for reprogramming as this may make the reprogrammed SOPS file unusable or entail
that the changes made locally will not work.

The fitting of equipment with power supply from the electrical system’s bodywork
interface that is not connected to the control units does not require any parameter
changes or reprogramming. Examples of such equipment are a tail lift or bogie drive
roller.

Note:
No local SOPS changes using SDP3 may be implemented when the SOPS file is be-
ing reprogrammed. This will lead to the new factory-ordered SOPS file being unus-
able.
