Porcelein Plate

It was recess time and the canteen were filled with students. Everyone was rushing to the
various stalls to get their favorite food. The canteen was very noisy with students laughing,
shouting, and shoving one another playfully. “Crash!” The sound reverberated throughout the
canteen.

Everyone looked towards where the sound was coming from. Two girls were standing
still. They looked stunned. At their feet were fragments of a porcelain plate. There was a sudden
silence in the canteen and everyone stared reprovingly at them. Even the canteeners were shaking
their heads in annoyance. The cleaners came to sweep up the pieces. She gave the girls a sharp
stare and reminded them about how dangerous it was to play in the canteen.

The girls regretted their cations. The other students were pointing accusing fingers at them.
Someone even shouted that their behavior was disgraceful. The girls were so ashamed of
themselves that they left the canteen immediately.

I still remember how embarrassing experience it was. I was caught in a situation where, I
wanted to just lost in a blink of an eye. Few years later, I went to that place—school canteen. This
time, I am no longer a ‘disgraceful girl’ who crash a porcelain plate. This time, I am a teacher. I
have learned from my past experience. Funny how I embarrassed myself because of my
negligence and misbehavior but now, I am a teacher, putting the pieces of porcelain plate broke
by my students like, helping them out the embarrassing experience that I once went through.
