Alarm Description
 Base stations need to perform clock
synchronization to ensure that the clock frequency
difference between network devices is within an
acceptable range. To perform clock synchronization,
the base station requires a clock reference. This
alarm is reported when the base station fails to
perform clock synchronization because external clock
reference signals are lost, or the clock reference is
unavailable, or there is a large frequency offset
between the clock reference and the local
oscillator, or other reasons.

Specific Problem
 Clock Reference Lost, Clock Reference Unavailable,
Excessive Frequency Difference Between Clock
Reference and Local Crystal Oscillator, Excessive
Frequency Variation of Clock Reference, Excessive
Phase Difference Between Clock Reference and
Local Crystal Oscillator, Inconsistent Clock
References, IPCLK Reference Unavailable due to
Unacceptable Quality, SYNCETH Clock Reference
Unavailable due to Unacceptable Quality, GPS
Clock Reference Unavailable due to Unacceptable
Quality, TOD Clock Reference Unavailable due to
Unacceptable Quality

Impact
 The base station fails to synchronize with the
reference clock. The system clock may become
unusable if the base station does not obtain a
reference clock within the grace period. For the
specific value of the grace period of the base
station, see synchronization feature parameter
description of the base station. When the
system clock is unusable, the quality of services
of the base station decreases, resulting in
handover failures and call drops. In certain
cases, the base station cannot provide services.

STC MS 03/06/20
Possible Causes
 Data configuration :-The clock reference is incorrectly
configured.
 Software :-Not related to software
 Hardware:-The hardware of the UTRP, USCU, or main
control board is faulty.
 Others :-

If the clock reference is IPCLK, the IP clock link may fail. (common issue)
If the clock reference is GPS clock, the GPS antenna may be faulty or the number of
locked GPS satellites may be insufficient.
Excessive frequency variation of external clock reference.
The clock reference is unavailable due to unacceptable quality.
If the link clock or synchronous-Ethernet clock is applied , the transmission link
between the base station and the clock reference may fail, or the frequency deviation
between the clock reference and the local clock may be excessively large.
If the clock reference is PEER clock, the clock reference may be incorrectly configured
in peer mode.

IP clock link fail (common Issue trouble
shooting to swap the IP clock server)

Follow below steps to swap bts ip clock:-

1- LST BTSIPCLKPARA:IDTYPE=BYNAME,BTSNAME="xx";
(Please list configured bts ip clocks )
2- SET
BTSIPCLKPARA:IDTYPE=BYNAME,CLKPRTTYPE=PTP,CLKT
OPOMODE=PTPOVERUDP,SYNMODE=CONSYN,ISCLKREDU
CY=SUPPORT,MASTERIPADDR=“x.x.x.x",SLAVEIPADDR=“x.
x.x.x"; (swap both btsclock ip with each other and wait 15
to 30 minutes; if alarm not fixed go to next step)
3- LST BTSIPCLKPARA:; (to get configured ipclocks on all
sites of BSC)
4- choose any other ip clocks from any other site which have
no alarm and replace existing bts ip clocks with it.
5- In case of BSC 6900, also mod btsiprt and replace existing
btsipclocks with new ipclocks.
