Should Poor People be Sterilized?

Sterilization is one of the contraception method used by both males and females.

It is simple surgical procedure, however it can be complex when viewed from

sociological and ethical procedure (Hutchison, 2011).

Sterilizing poor people without their permission and knowledge is a violation of

human rights. It is not necessary that the offspring of people who live in poverty

would be poor too. Forced sterilization of the poor people violates their right to

procreate. It is discriminatory practice against poor people as their genes are viewed

as defective and bad which would pollute the population of country. Instead of forced

sterilization, state should spend its money and resources to improve the condition of

poor people by providing them free education and generate employment opportunities

for them (Hutchison, 2011).

Poor people can be sterilized only with their consent and giving them proper

information about the impact of sterilization on their health. It would give them power

to prevent unwanted pregnancies and relief from financial stress to raise their children

(Hutchison, 2011).
