EDUCATION, THE BEST LEGACY

Good day everyone, I am Nweke Ekene. I welcome everyone today for gracing this

unique occasion, and I cannot but appreciate the Almighty God and give honour to those

whom honour is due; which includes the proprietor and proprietress, our beautiful guests

of honour, staffs, parents, guardians and my fellow pupils for giving me the privilege of

giving a speech before you, titled - “Education, the best legacy”.

Before I proceed, I will like to define the word EDUCATION.

Education is a systematic process whereby an individual is exposed to and provided with

the opportunity of acquiring knowledge, skills, values and attitudes which develops

cumulatively with a view to;

1. Preparing him well to enable him satisfactorily integrate effectively in the society.

2. Pursue a career and

3. Sharpen his quest for continuous learning.

In summary, Education can be defined as a process of drawing out and developing the

potentialities of an individual.

The word ‘Legacy’ from the English dictionary refers to something inherited from a

predecessor or the past. This explains that education is not just going to school; it is

what remains after one has forgotten what one has learnt in school.

It extendedly plays a vital role to a productive, good life. It improves the value and

excellence of one's life as well. "How so?" you might ask. Well, a good education
reforms a person, helps rational thinking, career selection, social integration,

socialization, patriotism to mention a few.

It also aids parenting. Studies have shown that mothers who have gone to school have

healthier, better-nourished children, who are most likely to succeed Also; women who are

educated have fewer kids, and have improved parental care, Education augments the

ability of families to handle health problems.

Education motivates self-assurance and provides us with the things we need to partake in

today's world. It makes us more independent and aware of what is going on in the world

today, along with the awareness of opportunities and rights. It offers a greater

understanding of one's capability and potential as well.

Finally, I close with a quote from Malcolm Forbes “Education’s purpose is to replace an

empty mind with an open one”

Let’s always remember that - Education is the best legacy.

Thank You.
