How can I use this with my children?

When completing this activity with your

child, encourage them to count the circles
Parent Guide
in the two Numicon Shapes — the total
number of the circles is the answer. This
helps by seeing the numbers visually.

How does this help my children’s learning?

This activity can help your child add two

one-digit numbers together where the
answer is ten or below.

Ideas for further learning:

Using groups of objects (such as toys or

coins), make two small groups and ask
your child to add them together. They
could then challenge you to complete a
similar task before checking your answer.
