Evans crea que su taza de t tena el veneno (poison), por lo que cambi la taza de Mrs. Merrowdene por la de su marido, creyendo que ella quera matarlo. Ella acerc sus labios a la taza y ech su contenido a una maceta (donde haba un helecho=fern) descaradamente, por lo que Mr. Evans la vi, se dio cuenta y bebi su t rpidamente (creyendo que el veneno estaba en dicha maceta), pero resulta que no, que el veneno estaba en su propia taza.
