This hit South Korean survivalist thriller film, written by Hwang Dong Hyuk, follows desperate and
financially-ruined individuals as they compete to the death in a series of children's games. It is a story
of people, all having their own backstories, who are facing huge problems in life; but then, a
mysterious invitation to participate in a survival game to win more than 38 million US dollars sparked
the interest of these individuals. The selected players are a group of strangers who are financially
unstable and are all willing to take part to try and desperately win the huge cash prize. However, in the
process, they learned that there’s a pretty hefty consequence for anyone who loses the game. The
movie is, indeed, a test of strategy, patience, perseverance, and luck as every game is filled with
surprises and gimmicks that will surely stir the minds and bodies of the players. There are six games in
Squid Game in which the contestants have to compete against one another. Every game is based on
popular children’s games. The game takes place on an isolated island where the participants are locked
up until there is a final decided winner. The series revolves around the main character, Seong Gi-hun, a
divorced and indebted chauffeur, who is invited to play a series of children’s games for a chance to
earn a large cash prize. Accepting the offer, he was taken to an isolated island, where he was placed
among the other 455 players, all of whom were in financial distress. The players are made to wear
green tracksuits and are kept under watch at all times by masked guards in pink jumpsuits. The games
are overseen by the Front Man, who wears a black mask and a black uniform. The thrill and suspense
start as soon as the players learn the fate they all share with one another after each and every round
of games played.
EPISODE 1: ROUND 1 – RED LIGHT, GREEN LIGHT

Red Light, Green Light” turns out not just to be the password for the first
game but also the game itself, a version of the playground game
where you move on green and stop still on red. But there’s a twist. Here,
if you’re eliminated from the game, you’re shot to death. Once the
participants discover this, most of them attempt to flee and are killed en
masse, their corpses piling up on top of each other by the doors. The
remaining players have no choice but to play along. Sang-woo helps
Gi-hun figure out the motion sensor and advises him to stay behind
someone else — 067 has the same idea, hiding behind and
antagonizing 101 during the game. All of the main characters we’ve
met so far survive the game, but Gi-hun only makes it by the skin of his
teeth, and even then only thanks to the intervention of another player,
199, who catches him when he’s about to fall. “Red Light, Green Light”
ends with the roof of the “game room” closing as an aerial shot reveals
the games are taking place.
EPISODE 3: ROUND 2 - SUGAR HONEYCOMBS

They pick a shape, either a circle, triangle, star, or umbrella. Seong chooses the umbrella because his mother
chastised him for losing one when he was young. The players' new mindset is, "if I mess up, I die.“ The game is
"Sugar Honeycombs," confirming what Kang likely saw was the red suits making these. They must cut their shape
out with a needle in ten minutes. They begin, hunched over the floor, the red suits roaming with guns. The game is
hard because the wafer breaks easily; Seong is especially struggling with the intricate shape of the umbrella.
When a mistake happens and the first person is shot, everyone has to find a way to focus, to save their life as
people drop dead all around them. Sang-woo and Ali first, and winners are told to leave the arena. 29/Jun-ho is
caught by another red suit in the arena too early because, they say, 29 is on clean-up-dead-bodies duty. 29/Jun-
ho says he was confused and is told, threateningly, to stay after the game; someone will talk to him about this
confusion. When Seong’s sweat hits the wafer, he realizes it is melting, so he begins licking it. Han wins, using a
confiscated lighter to burn away the honeycomb edges, then eats her star with relish in a red suit's face before
handing the lighter to Jang in an effort to maintain that proposed alliance (Han is the bomb). Other players see
Seong licking the wafer and begin to as well. Creepy music starts playing; most of the remaining players are now
making oral love to the wafers as people around them are being kill-shot.
EPISODE 6 : ROUND 4 – MARBLES

In Squid Game, this round is used more as an episode to take a

breather while getting to know some characters better than as a
challenging entry in the competition. Each player is given a bag
containing ten marbles and then they are all divided in pairs. The
goal is to win every marble your opponent has, but, as they quickly
figure out, that between themselves and the person they chose to
pair up with (usually the person they have become closest to), one of
them will die. From the very first game, all players knew that most of
them weren’t going to make it to the end, but this was the first time
they were directly responsible for the death of someone they cared
about in the competition, since the pairs were chosen by themselves.
Players are authorized to use any minigame to win, from throwing
marbles on a hole to guessing how many marbles the other player is
holding on their closed hands. But, of course, the players don't really
care about which method they use once they realize they'll have to
kill a close friend in order to get to the next round.
