RESEARCH PLAN
Rationale
The biggest challenge in growing cities is to come up with solid will bete
management that would effectively reduce the rubbish released to the environment.
According to a report released by the World Bank (2012), by the year 2025 Municipal solid
will bete (MSW) generated by Philippine cities will go up by 165 percent to 77,776 tons per
day from 29,315 tons as a consequence of a projected 47.3-percent hike in urban population
Will bete management services are becoming an important market, for which the will bete
collection process is a critical aspect for the service providers.
Development of innovative bin will reduce the amount of time and energy required to
provide will bete management services. The system will ensure that will bete are properly
disposed, can tell if the container is at full capacity and allowing the sanitation specialists to
work more efficiently and cut unnecessary costs.
Therefore, the researchers come up to create the trash can which can detect what type
of material the object by means of scanning it through a Light Dependent Resistor Sensor
with the integration of the laser pointer, thus the system can detect whether the material being
scanned is a plastic bottles, or tin cans, Software Development Life Cycle will be used in
encoding processes because there is a high possibility that plans for this project will be
accomplished.
Statement of the Problem
‘The trash can will be designed to automatically detect tin cans or plastic bottles.
Software Development Life Cycle will be used as the programming language as well as light
dependent sensor and laser pointer asSpecifically, it aims to answer the following questions:
1, To what extent is. the capability of the Innovative Trash Bin in terms of:
1,1 Percent Accuracy of the Sensor on;
1.1.1. Transparent Plastic bottles;
Ll
. Colored Plastic Bottles;and
1.1.3. Tin Cans
1.2.Response Time;and
1.3 time to fully discharge the battery?
Hypothesis
The researchers will be guided by the following hypothesis:
1. The innovative bin has high percent accuracy in segregating transparent plastic
bottles, colored plastic bottles and tin cans
2. Ithas also plausible respone time in sensing materials placed in the garbage inlet
3. The product will not discharge immediately since the product does not require a
great amount of electricity.
Materials and Methods
The bin will be consist of solar panel- the main power source of automatic segregator
machine, wire (awg 22), solar charger controller-consist of electronics components such as
transistor, diode, resistor, supply controller- consist of electronics components such as
transistor, diode, resistor and capacitor, electric motors, main controller- consist of electronics
components such as transistor, diode, resistor, integrated circuits, relays, and capacitor, Servomotor, 7805 regulator, 2x161LCD, Heatsink plastic! bottle I segregatorl mechanism, Wirings,
Universal PCBIboard, InletI mechanism, Potentiometers, Plasticleasing, Fuse, Transformer,
Diode, Capacitors, LDR sensors, Laser Light, Volt meter, Switches, 220VAC plugs, Bottles, tin
can and stopwatch.
Solar Charger Controller
It controls the solar panel voltage and current. Excessive voltage coming from the solar
panel may destroy battery immediately. It also cuts the voltage supply when the battery
reaches the maximum charge level to avoid battery leaks. It is composed of electronic
‘components such as transistor, diodes, and resistors.
Power Supply Controller
It protects sensitive components from excessive voltage from the battery. It also
regulates the voltage to avoid fluctuations into the supply that may result to system
malfunction. It consists of electronics components such as transistor, diode, resistor and
capacitor.
Main Controller
The main controller worked on receiving the information and logical operations will be
performed through programming methodology. It is a series of electronic components that
performs special task. It controls the entire operation of the system. It is composed of transistor,
diode, resistor, Integrated Circuits, relays, buzzer, and capacitor.Bin Frame
The solar charger controller, power supply controller and the main controller will be
enclosed in the upper portion of a 18°x14"x32” wooden frame and a solar panel will be placed
on top of the frame.
On the other hand, the lower portion of the frame will be made into a chamber where
the bottles and cans will be released. A 3-inch diameter opening will also be made in the upper
Portion which served as the garbage inlet where materials to be scanned will be placed.
A 12° rotary type conveyor will be built inside the frame where the material to be
Scanned will be held. Light Dependent Sensor will be fixed at the bottom part of the conveyor
While Laser Pointer will be fixed at the top. The bottles will be scanned by LDS and LP.
Testing Procedure
Percent Accuracy
Accuracy of the product will be tested by counting the correct segregation made by the
bin on the transparent, colored plastic bottles and tin cans, Number of correct segregations will
be counted and recorded. The percentage accuracy will be computed using the formula below.
%eaccuracy= #ofcorrect segregation made x 100
~ Total number of segregation
Response Time
Transparent and colored plastic bottles will be placed in the garbage inlet, The time it
takes for the rotary conveyor to respond upon inserting the bottles will be recorded. SameProcedure will be done to the tin cans. Ten trials will be done for this test. Mean of the ten
trials will be tabulated and interpreted.
Time to discharge the battery
Time it takes for the power supply to reach 6v will be observed and recorded. This test
will be done in five trials. The time will be recorded and average of the five trial
tabulated.

Risks and Safety
‘The encoding process should be properly supervised by an expert in order for the
Product to function properly. Construction of the wooden frame will be done by a skilled
individual to avoid accidents,
