Dr. Jose P.

Rizal (1861-1896) is one of the most famous historical figures in

Philippine history. As someone who grew up being taught about his biography, heroism

and works in school, it’s actually no wonder why I adored him.

In the era wherein the Philippines was colonized by Spaniards and blood was shed

as Filipinos sought for independence, Dr. Rizal opted to use his pen instead. He

emphasized that education can also be a key for freedom and he fought for the

country, the intellectual way. I actually salute him for that knowing how important

education is nowadays. In fact, whenever I think of an education-related figure, his

name would just automatically pop in my mind. I would think of his famous quote ,

“slowly but surely” and remind myself to take things in my own pace. This quote of Dr.

Rizal was actually the main reason of my deep inspiration of him. He was a multi-

talented man, a total genius, and yet he still chose to take things slow. He remained

cool-headed, even during the moment of his own execution.

Rizal inspired in many ways and I feel like I owe him (aside from God and my

family) my success, if granted, for believing that the youth is the hope of our country.
