Why we recommend HRC Fuse.

Dear All,

Most of the customer raised his concern Why did we recommend the HRC in comparison to
MCB or MCCB?

Please go through below, few technical things that may help you to get more clarification over
SFU/HRC recommendation:

Our electrical panels and relevant electrical components are designed according to Type 2 coordination for
which fusible HRC fuses are suitable (Switch Fuse Unit).

Levels of protection: The IEC standard for motor starters and contactors, defines two levels of
protection/coordination for the motor starter (Contactors and circuit protection device).

Type I Co-ordination- Under short circuit conditions, the contactor or starter shall cause no danger to
persons or installation and may not be suitable for further service without repair and replacement
parts.

• Type II coordination- Under short circuit conditions, the contactor or starter shall cause no
danger to persons or installation and shall be suitable for further use. The risk of contact
welding is recognized in this, for which the manufacturer shall indicate the measures to be
taken regarding equipment maintenance.

Advantages of Fuse over MCCB:

• SFU response time / operating time is faster than that of the MCCB.
• Dual characteristic to differentiate starting current and fault current.

• Highest Breaking capacity.

• MCCBs having breaking contacts which lead to carbon formation during each trip thereby
needing maintenance. Arch chutes get affected during each trip so needed to be cleaned
which increased further maintenance and downtime.
• IF MCCB trips, someone can reset it without checking for a reason, and normally it will be
checked after multiple trips. So it’s dangerous to the unit if the trip is ignored. If the fuse
blows off, the reason for fusing will be investigated before replacing the fuse as it requires
a new fuse and in the case of MCCB, the trip can be ignored since the reset option is
available.

• MCCB settings can be manipulated which in the case of fuse is not possible.

• less costly.

Always Recommendation Siemens Make HRC Fuse

As informed earlier also, please ask your customer to install Back up fuses instead of MCCB / MCB.

It is very difficult to take warranty replacement from factory in case of any major failure of Motor /
Drive where MCB / MCCB are used.
The rating of the fuses are mentioned in the trailing mail.
