Dear Ms. Song:

Good morning, I am pleased that you have written to me to learn more about the culture of
my country, Argentina.

About greetings, people usually shake hands or even kiss the first time they meet. When they
already know each other customary people Kiss or hug people they know or fist bumping over
the pandemic. The greeting between men and women are different, women kiss each on the
cheek more than men do.

In formal situations, people address other people by their title and family names. In casual
situations, people address each other by their nickname or given names.

Regarding table manners, do not put your elbows on the table, neither talk with the mouth full
of food. In Argentina we use knives, forks and spoons for eating. However, with some finger
foods it is not customary to use clutery. There are no taboo foods in Argentina, but it is not
very common to eat insects for examples. In conversations, it is better to avoid talking about
religion, politics or soccer, they are controversial issues.

In my country, it is not customary to be punctual, except for work , university or school.

When invited to a meeting at a house, the guest should bring some dessert or drinks. There
are not many taboo gifts, if you can avoid those that are associated with funerals and objects
with the England’s flag out of respect for those who died in Malvinas. The dressing code in
general is liberal, in some religious institutions some clothes can be inapropriate.

An important aspect of our culture, the Argentine are energetic argumentative, avoid entering
into debate.

Cordially

Tabera Natalia.
