Definition Of Tenses

Tenses are very important and fundamental when studying English. Tenses are generally used
to form a sentence in English based on the time the incident took place. In other words, tenses
have a very close relationship with the timing of an event. An event or event can take place in the
past or the past, present or the present and in the future or the future.
A verb-based method used to indicate the time, and sometimes the countinuation or
copleteness, of action or state in relaction to the time of speaking.

1. We cannot talk of tenses whithour considering two componets of many english tenses : time
and aspect in simple terms...

3. Simple present
Simple Present Used to state daily activities (daily activity). Used to state general truths.
Used to state general truth (general truth).

Subject + Verb- 1 (s, es) + Object


Subject + be (is, am, are) + Complement
Example:
 She gives me money every month. (He gives me money every month)
 A week has seven days. (A week has 7 days)
 You are so diligent. (You are very diligenT)
Use of do / does
Do = I, you, we, they
Does = she, he, it and singular names
Usage of be (is, am, are)
Is = he, she, it and single person names Am = I Are = You, we, they

4. Simple Past
Used to express habits that are carried out in the past. Used to express activities that occurred
in the past with a clear time description.
Subject + Verb- 2 + Object
Subject + be (was/were) + Complement
Example:
 They visited Louvre Museum 2 years ago. (Mereka mengunjungi Museum Louvre 2 tahun
yang lalu)
 Beniqno was a singer 10 years ago. (Beniqno adalah seorang penyanyi 10 tahun yang lalu)

5. Aspect
The progressive aspect (or continuing aspect as it's sometimes called) is the aspect of a
verb that expresses an ongoing action.
"Progressive aspect" is the collective term for verbs (in the past tense, present tense,
or future tense) in a progressive tense.

6. Present Progressive tense uncompleted action


  Menyatakan kejadian yang sedang terjadi pada saat sekarang.
 He is working now. (Dia sedang bekerja sekarang)
 They are eating right now. (Mereka sedang makan sekarang)
 Don’t disturb me. I am listening to the English news. (Jangan ganggu saya. Saya sedang
mendengarkan berita berbahasa Inggris)
 Let’s go out. It is not raining right now. (Mari kita berangkat. Sekarang sudah tidak
hujan)

Used to state activities that will be carried out in the future To state activities that will occur
in the future and have approached their occurrence.
Subject + will/shall + Verb-1 + Object
Subject + will/shall + be + Complement
Example:
 Joe will be following the speech contest at 10 o’clock tomorrow. (Joe akan mengikuti
kontes pidato pada pukul 10 besok)
 My grandma and my grandpa will (being) at my home all day tomorrow. (Nenek dan
kakekku akan berada dirumahku besok seharian)
