What is Distance? (may pic ng nagiisip na tao)

In Mathematics, Distance is defined as the amount of space or length between two particular points
joined by a line. This is a numerical measurement of how far apart the points are relative to each other.
These points are commonly referred to as (X1, Y1) for the first point and (X2, Y2) for the second point in
the cartesian plane.

Distance formula:

where;
d – distance
(X1, Y1) – coordinates of the first point
(X2, Y2) – coordinates of the second point
Examples:

1.) What is the shortest distance between the points (6, 0) and (3, -4)?
Let’s Solve!
Given:
X1 = 6
Y1 = 0
X2 = 3
Y2 = -4
d=?

Equation:

Solution:

(Magkasunod)
2.) How many units away is point (1, 7) from point (-6, -4)?
Let’s Solve!
Given:
X1 = 1
Y1 = 7
X2 = -6
Y2 = -4
d=?

Equation:

Solution:

(Magkasunod)
Let’s check if you can solve on your own!

Exercises:
1. Points (7, -5) and (x, -1) has a distance of 4 units. What is the value of x?

2. Find the distance between points (5, √2) and (9, -√2).
Answer Key:
1. Given:
X1 = 7
Y1 = -5
X2 = ?
Y2 = -1
d = 4 units

Equation:

Solution:

(Magkasunod)
2.
Given:
X1 = 5
Y1 = √2
X2 = 9
Y2 = -√2
d=?
