COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The subject aims to inform students about legal and judicial ethics and to develop in them
deeper interest and appreciation in the subject. More importantly, the subject aims to inculcate on
the students that law is a profession, a noble calling; as such, it should have ethical standards that
should be observed and followed by the members thereof for it to remain a noble and honorable
profession.

For Legal Ethics, the course covers the duties which a lawyer owes to the court, to his
client, to his colleagues in the profession, and to the community, as embodied in the Constitution,
the Rules of Court, Code of Professional Responsibility, jurisprudence, and special laws.

For Judicial Ethics, the course covers the right and proper conduct to be observed by all
judges and magistrates in trying and deciding controversies brought to them for adjudication as
embodied in the Code of Judicial Conduct as well as the New Code of Judicial Conduct for the
Philippine Judiciary (Bangalore Draft), jurisprudence, and special laws.

Know and fully understand the laws and their applications, master the provisions,
develop critical and analytical thinking, effective in written and oral
communication, logical reasoning, and sound judgment, exercise of proper
professional and ethical responsibilities

POLICIES:
Policies and values that the teacher might want to communicate through the
syllabus concerning attendance, participation, academic integrity (e.g. plagiarism,
cheating, fabrication), missing assignments, missed exams, recording classroom

1. Attendance will be checked every meeting.


2. Students who are called to recite but absent shall get a grade of 60.
